{"id":12146,"date":"2022-04-04T14:50:31","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T18:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=12146"},"modified":"2022-04-04T14:52:02","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T18:52:02","slug":"bachs-st-matthews-passion-bwv-244","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=12146","title":{"rendered":"Bach's St. Matthew's Passion BWV 244"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Not long ago, thanks to Alex, I joined the virtual workshop presented by David Chin, a Malaysian, who is a conductor, on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St_Matthew_Passion\" target=\"_blank\">St. Matthew's Passion<\/a> by Bach. It's a great introductory into this fantastic work of Bach. Good thing I recorded it, as it's been since taken down due to his request for copyright. I don't have a good memory so I cannot abide by this copyright nonsense especially when it was a great presentation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bach was indeed a great theologian, a product Luther's Reformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prompted my interest to look further into the piece:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to find a Youtube recording of the work with subtitles: English &amp; German, with the hope of learning not just to sing, but German as well. But since I cannot find one, this is the best I can go with, below is the German subtitled version (I don't care to discern different conductors at this point like Alex, don't think I ever will):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"J.S.
