{"id":1513,"date":"2009-12-03T08:53:14","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T08:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=1513"},"modified":"2009-12-03T08:53:14","modified_gmt":"2009-12-03T08:53:14","slug":"first-cousin,-once-removed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=1513","title":{"rendered":"First Cousin, once Removed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nI was confused by this once.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHaving just read Genesis 24:15 ...behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother...\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI had to know if there's an English term as to how Rebekah is related to Isaac.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThanks to a good illustration by this <a href=\"http:\/\/sonic.net\/~fredd\/cousins.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Helpful\">site<\/a>, this Cousin confusion is clarified for me. One would say, I hit two birds with one stone.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>First Cousin<\/strong> are what we usually call <strong>cousin<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Second Cousin<\/strong> are called by the children of First Cousins <strong>to each other<\/strong>. And Third and so forth.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHowever, to call the <strong>children of my First Cousin<\/strong>, it is called First Cousin, <strong>ONCE REMOVED<\/strong>. And the grandchildren of my First Cousin, twice removed, and so forth (three times removed, etc.)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNow since Bethuel is Isaac's First cousin, Rebekah would be Isaac's First Cousin, Once Removed. In addition to being his wife. Thus, the family structure of the ancients.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was confused by this once.
