{"id":19092,"date":"2025-09-03T16:42:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T20:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=19092"},"modified":"2025-09-03T16:43:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T20:43:14","slug":"scopes-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=19092","title":{"rendered":"Scopes Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I was aware that this <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scopes_trial\">staged trial<\/a> ignited the Modernist vs. Fundamentalist battle in 1925.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I've only heard mostly talks of it from the Reformed circle until I came across it again in William Lane Craig's podcast series: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reasonablefaith.org\/media\/reasonable-faith-podcast\/was-this-the-greatest-trial-on-earth-part-two\">Reasonable Faith on 9\/1\/2025<\/a>, titled: Was This the Greatest Trial on Earth? Part Two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the interview, Dr. Joshua Swamidass noted that the earlier Reformers (particularly at the beginning of the 20th century) were mostly Old Earth. I think the Young Earth is really a new thing being popularized by Henry Morris. Not ignoring the fact that both views are found in earlier ancient time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the Fundamentalists turned into anti-intellectuals or isolation culture, WLC and Swamidass credited a few evangelists who broke that isolation barrier in U.S., building a bridge with the scientific community:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carl_F._H._Henry\">Carl F.H. Henry<br><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harold_Ockenga\">Harold Ockenga<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harold_Lindsell\">Harold Lindsell<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bernard_Ramm\">Bernard Ramm<\/a><br>Billy Graham<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I never heard of anyone above but Billy Graham. It's time I look into these folks.
