{"id":22080,"date":"2026-11-02T14:33:17","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T18:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=22080"},"modified":"2026-11-02T16:16:05","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T20:16:05","slug":"journal-of-the-week-138","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=22080","title":{"rendered":"Journal of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>11\/1\/2026 Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sermon on John 3:22-36 by Pastor Dan at Crossroads, titled \"He Must <strong>Increase<\/strong>, I Must <strong>Decrease<\/strong>\", made marked this observation down:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These two PCA churches focus on two different extremes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Grace (Bridgewater): Focuses on our perfection (as elect saints)<br>Crossroads (Somerville): Focuses on our imperfection (as fallen men)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To keep\/preach the right balance of this, is a challenge lacking in the conservative Presbyterian churches I suppose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At lunch, I proved to Willy that it was stupid of him to think that \"It is embarrassing for Christians to have so many denominations\", by paralleling \"Try saying: <strong>it is embarrassing for an artist to have to use so many colors<\/strong>\". Later before bed, I told Nadia how Willy's tantrum was an example of being \"<strong>religious<\/strong>\" (especially stupid rules to fake vain EQ like: you must pour for everyone's cup if you pour yours, you must not get off before the driver who is not your servant, etc.) as defined by Tim <strong>Keller<\/strong>, as opposed to the Gospel or being Christian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At night we brought cake to Zaira our neighbor but they're not home so their daughter took it.
