{"id":2266,"date":"2012-02-02T10:55:58","date_gmt":"2012-02-02T10:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=2266"},"modified":"2015-05-24T01:50:21","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T05:50:21","slug":"fujitsu-lifebook-p1620-triple-boot-windows-vista-mac-os-x-linux-and-fixes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nycphantom.com\/journal\/?p=2266","title":{"rendered":"Fujitsu Lifebook P1620 - Triple Boot: WIndows Vista, Mac OS X, Linux, and fixes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After my P1510 HDD failure, I've decided to just upgrade the lifebook to P1620, which has Duo Core. I got it used for around $160 on Ebay. And it works very well with Vista.<\/p>\n<p>Now I'm off to install Mac OS X (iATKOS v7, minimum 6GB - I use 9-10GB) and eventually, a linux distro.: Either Debian or Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>With Mac, I am using the iATKOS of the Hackintosh family. I have tried and failed with version L2 (Lion) at PCI Configuration end during boot installation. So I went with version 7, as per illustrated on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insanelymac.com\/forum\/index.php?showtopic=197448\" target=\"_blank\">site<\/a>. Thanks to quangdx, whom the following credit goes to:<\/p>\n<p><em>The first time I installed OSX on my P1610 I used Kalyway 10.5.2, it was pretty successful,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> but there were a few remaining issues and it was a lot of hard work.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Quite a few months down the line and much has improved in the world of hackintosh,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> My latest install is with iAtkos v7, which can be found at any good torrent search.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I do suggest burning the disc at the slowest speed possible to minimise errors on the DVDR.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Here is how I installed iAtkos v7 OS X 10.5.7 on my Fujitsu P1610.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I'm not guaranteeing it will work for you, it's just how I did it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>MANY MANY THANKS to all that put the work in to make this possible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Preparation&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The very first thing I did was replace the standard Atheros WiFi card in my P1610,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> with a Airport compatible 802.11N Broadcom based WiFi card, that I picked up off eBay.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> No idea if iAtkos v7 supports the original Atheros card as I got rid of ages ago.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Downloaded and burned the iAtkos v7 disc image at x2 speed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Plug in my external USB DVD rom and put the iAtkos v7 disc in.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Turn on your Fujitsu Lifebook P1610 and at the POST screen hit F2 to enter the BIOS.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> In the BIOS go over to Boot and down to Boot Device Priority.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> in the list of Boot priority order, I removed everything except CD\/DVD drive,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> hit x to remove or add a device to the list.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Hit F10 to save and exit, then enter to confirm.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*** Some Updates regarding the installation has been commented below ***<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Installation&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Boot from CD\/DVD drive and at the Darwin loader<\/em><br \/>\n<em> press F8 for options and type -v to boot in verbose mode.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Once the installer loads up<\/em><br \/>\n<em> click the button to continue<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>under utilities menu<\/em><br \/>\n<em> click on Disk Utility<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Select the drive in your P1610, then choose the Partition\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Erase<\/span> tab.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> You could create just one partition if you want just Mac OS X, format it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>----<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I have mine setup as a dualboot, Mac OS X and Windows XP Tablet.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> So created two equal sized paritions the first being a Mac OS Extended (Journaled)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> the second being (MS-DOS) FAT so I can install Windows XP Tablet to it.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Once the partitions are created,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I then install Windows XP Tablet as I normally would, during the XP installation I reformat the FAT partition to NTFS.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Since it doesn't see the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition there is no issues here.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> After installing Windows XP, boot from the iAtkos disc again with F8 and typing -v.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Agree to the edited iAtkos license agreement,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Select a Destination - click on the Mac OS partiton, then continue<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Install Summary - Customize<\/em><br \/>\n<em> (the following are the options I used, they may not be the best, but they work for me.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-iATKOS v7 Main System<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-Bootloader<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --Chameleon v2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-X86 Patches<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --\/Extra directory<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --DSDT<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --Decrypters<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---AppleDecrypt<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --SMBIOS drivers<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---SMBIOS Enablers<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----SMBIOS Resolver<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---SMBIOS' for X86<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----AppleSMBIOS-28<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --Kernel<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---9.7.0 Kernel voodoo<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --Disabler<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-Drivers<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --VGA<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---Intel<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----GMA 950<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -----GMA 950 Laptop<\/em><br \/>\n<em> --System<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---SATA\/IDE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----Generic IDE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---CardBus Driver<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---USB<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---Sound<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----Voodoo HDA driver<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---PS\/2 mouse\/keyboard<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----Apple PS\/2 driver<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---Laptop Battery<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---NTFS-3G<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---Network<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ----Wireless<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -----Broadcom BCM43xx<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-Post-Install Actions<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Click Done, then Install<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Setup&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Once the Install has succeeded, click restart,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and when you get the Fujitsu POST screen hit F2 to go into the BIOS<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Unplug the USB DVD drive<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Remove the CD\/DVD drive from the Boot priority order,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and re-add the hard drive Drive0:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Press F10 to save and exit, then enter to confirm.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> When you get the Chameleon boot screen, push down three times to select Boot Verbose and hit enter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>OSX will start up and you should hear some funky music playing out the speakers,<\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">After the update also the GMA950 should work without the arch=x32 boot<br \/>\nflag. Important: <u><strong>If the screen gets weird <\/strong><\/u>and unreadable while booting,<br \/>\nyou have to <u><strong>press the Fn+F5<\/strong><\/u> twice, magically the screen should be<br \/>\ndisplayed properly after that.<\/span><br \/>\n<em> Select Country<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Keyboard<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Dou you already own a mac? - Continue<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Select a wireless Service<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Enter your Apple ID - you can leave it blank and hit Continue<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Registration Information - Alt+Q to skip<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Create Your Account Name and a password<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Select Time Zone<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Set the Date and Time<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Don't Forget to Register - Done<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Display&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> First things first, set the correct screen resolution.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Click on System preferences, the metallic looking Cogs icon at the bottom<\/em><br \/>\n<em> then under the Hardware heading, Displays.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> select 1280x768 to get the correct resolution.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Ethernet Networking&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ---------------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> From the menu select Go - Utilities<\/em><br \/>\n<em> then double click on Teminal<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Type the following instructions<\/em><br \/>\n<em> cd \/System\/Library\/Extensions<\/em><br \/>\n<em> sudo nano IONetworkingFamily.kext\/Contents\/PlugIns\/AppleYukon<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2<\/span>.kext\/Contents\/Info.plist<\/em><br \/>\n<em> it will ask for your password, if you haven't set one, this won't work.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> to set a password type passwd into the terminal screen.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> It will open and display the Info.plist file in the terminal window.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Hit Ctrl+w then type 0x436211ab<\/em><br \/>\n<em> edit that value to read 0x436311ab by changing the 2 to a 3.<\/em> (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Note there are two 0x436211ab, I changed both! but somehow with the new 80gb HDD, Ethernet did not show up - I do not remember what happened prior to the HDD upgrade. Perhaps it's due to the \"mistake\" I made during installation because I opted for ALL Ethernet Network Adapter?<\/span>)<br \/>\n<em> the hit Ctrl+o to save, hit enter to confirm the filename,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> then Ctrl+x to exit<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>type<\/em><br \/>\n<em> sudo rm -r \/System\/Library\/Extensions.mkext<\/em><br \/>\n<em> then type<\/em><br \/>\n<em> diskutil repairPermissions \/<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Wait for it to finish repairing all the disk permissions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Click on the Apple symbol at the top left, and select Restart<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Once again at the Chameleon Boot Loader screen, press Down 3 times to select Boot Verbose<\/em><br \/>\n<em> When it's all loaded up and you're logged in, load System Preferences<\/em><br \/>\n<em> and under Internet &amp; Network select the Network icon.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> It should now add your ethernet network adapter to the network settings and you click OK then Apply.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Keyboard layout&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -----------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> http:\/\/www.insanelymac.com\/forum\/index.php...st&amp;p=767201<\/em><br \/>\n<em> download and install the Microsoft Keyboard layouts,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> once that's done, restart the computer and go into System Preferences and select International.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Select Input Menu.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> scroll through and check the box for the keyboard you have.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> mine is British - Microsoft.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Then up in the top right you'll see a little Flag where you can click on to change the keyboard layout.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Upgrade to 10.5.8&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -------------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Click on the Apple icon, top right, and select Software update,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> uncheck the 10.5.8 update for now, and update everything else.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> once it's all updated and restarted, check for updates again,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> hopefully there is now only the 10.5.8 update left.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Check that and apply that update, it takes a while,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> but it should restart a couple of times and you'll now have 10.5.8 running on your P1610.<br \/>\nDon't forget to repair the Ethernet again as described above in the &lt;Ethernet Networking&gt; section.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Things that are not working&gt;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> -----------------------------<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Touchscreen, Buttons on the screen bezel, SD card reader.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I don't think I'm going to be able to get the Touchscreen to work,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> as the P1610 uses a serial touchscreen controller, which there doesn't seem to be any support for.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Again the same for the buttons on the screen bezel, no support.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> But I reckon with a bit more hunting around I should be able to get the SD card reader working. Hopefully.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NOTE:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the Mac installation, the Windows Vista BCD was messed up, so thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insanelymac.com\/forum\/index.php?showtopic=177916\" target=\"_blank\">Max<\/a>, I have this solution:<\/p>\n<p><em>I struggled with this too. After installing Mac, the Vista boot is messed up. To fix it using Vista Recovery Disk, do the following:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>1) Boot Vista Recovery Disk and got to command prompt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>2) Run diskpart, do the following within diskpart<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.1: list your disks using command \"list disk\"<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.2: select the disk with your vista\/mac installation using command \"select disk N\", where N is the disk number.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.3: run command \"list partition\" to show your partitions<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.4: select vista (<\/em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Important Note: in the case of Win 7, choose the boot partition, which is usually the first one, usually 100-200MB, not the main win7 partition<\/span><em>) partition using command \"select partition M\", where M is your vista partition<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.5: run command \"active\"<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2.6: run command \"exit\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>3) Fix BCD by running the follow command in the command prompt<\/em><br \/>\n<em> bootrec \/rebuildbcd<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>4) Run diskpart again, this time set the Mac partition as active. Exit diskpart, exit command prompt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>5) Reboot!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Personally I think the installer should fix the mess!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Max<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Note 2: Defaulting Chameleon bootloader to Windows Vista instead of MacOS.<br \/>\nTo find out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/alternate-bootloaders\/105670-identifying-all-drives-partitions-eg-hd1-3-chameleon.html\" target=\"_blank\">how disk\/partitions are labeled<\/a>, use Terminal-&gt; diskutil list (in iATKOS).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/tsosie.wordpress.com\/2009\/07\/20\/changing-chameleon-2-default-boot-partition\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tsosie<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>You want to change your boot partition default for chameleon 2? If<br \/>\nyou don\u2019t know XML or terminal commands, don\u2019t try this without<br \/>\nsupervision.<\/p>\n<p>Your disk numbers ascend from 0 to x. Your partitions on the single disk ascend from 1 to x.<\/p>\n<p>Open a terminal in os x<\/p>\n<p>cd \/Library\/Preferences\/SystemConfiguration<\/p>\n<p>vi com.apple.Boot.plist<\/p>\n<p>after any <strong>key\/string <\/strong>pairs, enter this pair<\/p>\n<p>&lt;key&gt;Default Partition&lt;\/key&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;string&gt;hd(disk number, partition number)&lt;\/string&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">05\/23\/2015 Note: I had a hard time figuring this out. I wanted the default partition to be Linux(ubuntu) so I used hd(0,5) as I was sure that partition 5 is where \/boot resides.
