File Access Denied on Windows XP and how to take ownership<\/h2>\n

In the recent hard disc crash,
\nI had a back-up for most of my files. Some of the files on a back-up
\ndrive was somehow avoiding me with an \u201cAccess Denied\u201d even though I was
\nlogged in as the Administrator (or Administrative Rights). While asking
\naround for help, a member from the Team Macromedia suggested me to google for the same. I finally got the solution on How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP.<\/p>\n

Here are the steps in quickie mode<\/i><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Log on to the computer with an account that has administrative
    \ncredentials. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
    \nmust start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account
    \nthat has Administrative rights to have access to the Security<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
  2. If you are using Windows XP Professional, you must disable Simple File Sharing.<\/li>\n
  3. Right-click the folder\/file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Click the Security<\/strong> tab, and then click OK<\/strong> on the Security message (if one appears).<\/li>\n
  5. Click Advanced<\/strong>, and then click the Owner<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
  6. In the Name<\/strong> list, click your user name, or click Administrator<\/strong> if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators<\/strong> group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects<\/strong> check box.<\/li>\n
  7. Click OK<\/strong>, and then click Yes<\/strong> when you receive the following message:
    \nYou do not have permission to read the contents of directory folderName<\/i>. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
    \nAll permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.<\/li>\n
  8. Click OK<\/strong>, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
