Often times, family, friends would suggest somewhat better ways in compromising your relationship with God, your immediate response to God. As the old chinese saying: 忠孝不能兩全. (One cannot both satisfy faithfulness to God and honor to parents at the same time).<\/p>\n
Let me also add:<\/p>\n
忠而不孝, 不忠;
孝而不忠, 也不忠.
孝乃藉以忠, 但忠不藉以孝.
忠孝有次序之原則.<\/p>\n
In order to retain the art, I'll translate the above literally:
Faithful to God while not honoring parents, Not faithful to God.
Honoring parents while not faithful to God, Not faithful to God indeed.
Honoring parents through faithfulness in God, but not vice versa.
To God and to men, there is a principle of order.<\/p>\n
One faces this challenge because others do not see.
But if one himself sees, he must be sure he sees what he should see, and not what he should not see.<\/p>\n
