Changing NIC Properties > Advanced Settings from by Registry

Sometimes Windows make it impossible to do elevated level configurations under Standard User account, no matter how hard one tries: runas doesn't work, right-click runas admin doesn't work, etc.

Changing a network adapter's advanced properties maybe one of them, but it's on regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

one of the keys listed under this tree is a network card in question.

I've used it to change "preferred band:" 5Ghz, under the key: RoamingPreferredBandType (0 = no preference, 1 = 2.4ghz, 2 = 5ghz) in Regedit. Though this does not force 5Ghz over 2.4Ghz.

My first attempt extending printer USB cable

Printer USB extension with CAT5 cable, first attempt and success!

Turns out, it's rather easy, check out YouTube. These USB cables only uses 4 lines, two for data and two for power (including ground). Just match them colors accordingly.

Outlook 2016 abandons Clutter for Focused Inbox

Some like it, some like neither. Most of my work mails are checked on the spot so I may not need this kind of stuff now.

The best Browser proxy thus far: KProxy for Firefox

There was Tor browser.

But KProxy (addon for Chrome & Firefox) is the best one I've used so far, on Firefox.

Symantec Endpoint Protection SEP 12

Version 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6 MP5) build 7004 (12.1.7004.6500)
For some reason, this didn't install well on Surface Pro Windows 10 Pro.

Error messages:
"symantec endpoint protection cannot open because some symantec services are stopped. restart the symantec services and then open the symantec endpoint protection"

"Symantec Endpoint Protection has detected that there are pending system changes that require a reboot. Please reboot the system and rerun the installation."

etc.

Solution:
It appears that one latest update of Windows is disrupting SEP. Go to Windows Updates and uninstall: KB4056892 (or KB4056891 or KB4056890)
uninstalling windows update: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892) would fix the problem - mohamed farouk

Where the Hearts of Missionaries Lie

Whatever Christian missions they want to call it...

It is evaluated according to their fluency in local language. Otherwise, it can be dismissed as something akin to business vacation.

This my conclusion after briefly viewing Nancy Long's FB posts today.

Free Seminary Resources

At this point, the only seminary I'm interested in paying full tuition fee is STRII. Though some descent seminaries (Calvin Theological Seminary's Distance Learning: MDiv, MA, etc., etc.) in the States are offering long distance/online programs, the $500 per credit tuition just won't do.

Unless you are someone with lots of money and time, I don't think it is worth it, when compared to so many free ones online. As for financial aid, it's not something worth pursuing either, despite many kind souls out there. I think it is just a waste of others' or your own money no matter what, given the rate and value today. Now one may argue for the living cost of a seminary professor. My response is: Go preach then, see how good you really are outside of academia, or, second best thing: write a book. Since I do not recommend the latter, the former is the only good option. I have a feeling soon, degree programs maybe close to free in the future as the new paradigm of learning comes into this modern age of internet and the battle between the enthusiastic teachers and the "royalties".

Anyway, here is my list of resources that I've found that's either very cheap or free:

  1. Ligonier Connect ($10/month): They have Sproul's, Godfrey's, etc. Very clear and interesting lectures. I don't know about sharing accounts...unless you get caught?
  2. BiblicalTraining.org (FREE): Greek/Hebrew, Proverbs, etc. some audios, some videos, taught by Mounce, Bruce Waltke, etc.
  3. ThirdMill (FREE): Richard Pratt's baby. Very well organized. The entire mission of this project is to provide free seminary to Africa's future pastors (and other countries as well).
  4. Monergism (FREE) has also gathered quite a list of resources such as WTS's archives, etc.
  5. I'm sure there are more to add to this list, and I will add them when I see more good ones.

I think if one completes 80% of all the above, it's very close to an MDiv, if not better. The only downside, there is no certificate, HAHAHAHA! But who needs it.

NYGC Carpeting Pros and Cons

So some genius thought it would be a good idea to renew all carpeting of the whole floor. There are bigger, more decent, cleaner companies that don't do that. Must be 风水 again.
Well, obviously, I have to redo the Lab. I'll bill 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours (8-10pm) today, just for rearranging, will be billing for another round for wiring and stuff.

A good side to this is when Lisa saw me arranging, she emphasized a different arrangement which would appear to have been simpler and more elegant. I think we (Nadia?) thought of that before but for some reason, we abandoned that arrangement. It's so simple we wouldn't have missed it. It was probably one of those so close but yet not doable moment. This time, having a creative seating plan to the front of the class (seating at side of table instead of the front), everything seems to fall into place. Definitely much better than before.

I need to do this by this Saturday, TOEFL time. Then perhaps send a photo to ETS/Prometric as an update of the test center.

I feel that I am fresh out of good ideas lately. Overworked by something else. Not too tired, but overworked. Perhaps I should look into the rest Alex spoke so fondly about. Not the way he lives it, however. I should be an "actively" approachable person, instead of a passive one. There are some examples, such as Tante Lyna, etc. Their good and bad, filter out the bad ones.
