Default Sign In Account for Windows 10

In this case, Windows 10 might not remember the last login account, so it would default to a specific account, where there are more than 1 windows login account.

NetPlWiz is the solution:

  1. run netplwiz
  2. check User Must Enter a Username/Password ...
  3. select the default account and hit Apply.
  4. Uncheck User Must Enter a Username/Password ...
  5. Apply again.
  6. Done.

Job Seeking Experience: Mount Sinai Hospital's Database Manager Position

https://www.glassdoor.com/Interview/Mount-Sinai-Health-System-Database-Manager-Interview-Questions-EI_IE121517.0,25_KO26,42.htm

That was the link to my review of Dalila, the one doing the hiring. And here's what I've posted, in case Glassdoor decided to remove it:
Application
I applied online. I interviewed at Mount Sinai Health System (New York, NY) in May 2017.
Interview
Dr. Pinto called me in for interview. She even assured me that she had so high regard for me that she has contacted HR to get me employed. At the time I had another job offer, which she even asked me to postpone for Mt. Sinai's HR to contact me. After that, my countless follow ups were met with no response. Two months later, I see this position posted again. I know companies who don't response even after a couple of interviews is quite normal, but to promise hire to a point that risks a candidate's other job offer, and just completely ignore the candidate without reason is just unbecoming of such a large cooperation.
So, here's my assessment of possible "reasons":
1. She was trying to determine to right price to hire. Nothing new, I've seen others done the same.
2. She ran out of budget.
3. She had ulterior intention which she learned that it was unlikely to happen during the interview.
4. She later thought that I was not qualified, but then why the silence and false hope?
Bottom line, I think this is very irresponsible and hence I would question the stability of this job title. I had said $70k before, which she happily agreed. But with such instability, I would advise minimum base of $120k for something like this, or stay away from it completely.

There was another job like that in Connecticut, never replied back, I don't think it's even worth mentioning in detail. Another was Discover Melody, had me wrote a site for them, but then no response after that. Good thing I've had enough experience to know how to keep my works from these cheap swindlers.

All these happened early this year.

Mail Merge: Change Sender's Email Address & Include Attachment

There appears to be no such straight forward solution from Microsoft. There are third party software/plugins that do that and they are not free, not to mention some are complicated to use.

The idea with Mail Merge is not just mass mailing, but it has features like Greet Lines where you can use variables for specific recipient's addresses/names, making the letter look more personal...Dear Tim, etc.

However, I did find the best solution (thus far) to do this (source):

In Outlook, just go to Send/Receive>Work Offline.

This way, Mail Merge in Word will safe all Mail Merge emails to the Outbox folder in Outlook, where one can edit/attach the mails one by one. Yes, one by one, but at least we don't have to do one by one email from scratch, the main content is in every mail.

After that, set Work Offline to online and Outlook will send them all at once (or click the Send All button on top under Send/Receive menu).

How to Unblock Unsafe Attachments in Microsoft Outlook

So I got this error when a developer was emailing me a js file:
"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments…"

Solution (from: sitepoint):

1. Close Outlook

2. Run regedit.exe
Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeXX.XOutlookSecurity

Where XX.X indicates your version of Outlook:

  • 14.0 for Microsoft Office 2010
  • 12.0 for Microsoft Office 2007
  • 11.0 for Microsoft Office 2003
  • 10.0 for Microsoft Office 2002
  • 9.0 for Microsoft Office 2000

3. Create a new value
Create a new string value key in that location named:

Level1Remove

4. Choose your ‘safe’ file types
Edit the key and enter a list of attachment extensions you want to unblock. Each should start with a period and be separated with a semi-colon. For example…

To unblock JavaScript files only, enter:

.js

To unblock JavaScript, VBScript, and exe files, enter:

.js;.vbs;.exe

Click OK to save the value then exit regedit.

5. Restart Outlook
The attachment should be magically unblocked. Try rebooting if that’s not the case.

The Reformed Today

Lots of them are not really reformed. They are cultural. That's why they cannot stand the likes of Paul Washer, Stephen Tong, etc. Those who are anti-cultural, such as Trump, must be abhorred. Unless, it is, of course, God. They insist that they stand upon the shoulder of heroes of the reformation, but in fact, they are actually hiding behind cultural heroes.

VSTO: Doing MS Office in Visual Studio

This is fun.
First it was ClickOnce, where you can have setup program that updates itself when necessary on every run.
Now, VSTO beats document level macro.

Hurricane Season

There were more than these, but I will just note the relevant ones (Affecting New Yorkers):

First it was Hurricane Jose, which followed Irma. I think it's going to be a near miss, not to mention it's only category 1 right now. Then, there's a category 4 Maria still afar, but heading toward us.

What's next? Hurricane Jesu?

I would really love to see this up close. 4 Meters to 15 meters of waves. The build up zone near the Caribbeans is just amazing over the satellite:

On Bilingual

Americans like to praise the term: Bilingual, for whatever reason there may be.

I could easily understand what "Bilingual" means. But I think I've never known this word until I came to America, simply because...in Malaysia, the minimum language requirement for any educated person is 3 languages and that's not counting dialects.

Gratitude of Favor

Not all favors should be thanked. Favors you do need, you thank, you must be grateful. Favors you never need, you don't thank. In fact, you can take them, I see nothing wrong with that, make them useful to yourself and not be thankful. But thank God, always.

Of course, not being thankful does not mean not to say "Thank you", even though that can be a valid option. Saying "Thank you" can mean many things other than being thankful, such as "do not be discouraged by my ingratitude" or "if only that will shut you up", etc. It's the only good thing to say without discouraging the zeal of the favor providers, if there's a better response to use, I would use it, but I currently find none. The expressions of it will distinguish it all. Accepting such insistent but unwanted favor, is better than fighting it off, or than saying "No, thanks" in some cases.

For example, someone helped me in my court case, I am most grateful to them. On the other hand, someone helped my wife got a job where it was not asked of them, that I'm not thankful to them for, though we have double income because of it.

What then? Must favor be granted only when asked? No, not necessarily, wise judgment is required. This results in stronger relationship, understanding, fine tuned sensitivity, responsibility building and better ability to care.

But in all things, I give thanks to God my Lord.

Now, this principle of mine, will certainly drive many pastors who love to create unnecessary favors up the wall. But it is okay. They'll learn.
