Proposed Strange Methods for Study

#1. Break down study portions and study each of them at different locations for one short time (After all I have unlimited MTA rides), this change of study backgrounds may make things less boring) - avoid sleepiness.

Just found this in my Note 3, before deleting it. Mostly at Tawangmangu.

The Effect of Gospel Centeredness, Truly Loving God

If someone loves God truly, then he/she will at the very least concern with exhibiting good management skill. Be it in organization, speech, presentation, ..., Sunday School leading, Bible study teaching, hosting events and even doing scriptural reading in the pulpit before a sermon.

True, good management skills never implies one truly loves God.

Nonetheless, poor management skill implies questions in one ministry. A nonchalant attitude towards the failure of management skill (a comme ci comme ça, whatever happens happens, "may God's will be done" ignorance) PROVES one's relationship with God.

I say this in a flashback memory of certain pastor's management skill in the past. Or certain elder's Bible Leading preparation. As well as my own of course.

Redeemer Presbyterian Church Losing Focus

Now this RISE program says: Each new Rise pledge made by May 7 will receive a $2,700 match—up to $2.7M!

First, it was Tim Keller announcing his future role, which I don't see how it fits biblically.

Now, this Rise thing. With all the hype about gift matching, frankly now I am not clear what is the goal of Rise. Is it a donation competition? see if we can raise the highest funds? or something else?

Thus far there are still a good number of reformed theologically trained speakers on staff. That is the hope and prayer.

Reactive Attitudes of the Bullied

To investigate the cause of desire in bullies, we'll do it in the context without God's intervention.

Therefore, it is not possible for one to just simply love to bully or enjoy the sufferings/shame of others. One only does so if and only if one has been treated likewise. I'm saying this with the presupposition that there is always authority of some sort in place to keep everyone in check.

The reactive attitudes towards being bullied can be seen in two categories, provided that God does not intervene:
1. challenge authority (like many liberals today, and I believe many eastern faiths are applied here as well.)
2. bully others (twisted sense of justice)

I use "God's intervention" instead of "God's existence" as the absence of controlling factor because we are all built in God's image, hence the question to God's existence is already settled.

New York Botanical Garden 04/27/2016

We've finally come on the most peak day. Most trees bloom at this time.

Godaddy Linux Host Migration Due to Server Upgrade

Godaddy informed me about a month ago that they are upgrading their servers resulting in me having to migrate all my site manually myself. I've finally finished it during a trip to Boston with my wife.

Procedures:

Contacted Godaddy, had them create my new account on new host. They emailed me some basic steps, which are not sufficient and I had to google.

In Godaddy File Manager:
- zipped all the files in chunks. Download them to my PC.
- Backup mysql files, I have two databases, one of which is probably useless (from older backup), WordPress only uses one 1 database. But I backed up both anyway.
- Cancel Old Hosting account via Web Hosting -> Options -> Cancel.

Waited for 1 full day, then new account finally shows nycphantom.com is available under setup.

Uploaded all zipped files. Extract them in Godaddy's File Manager.

Attempted to use the new cPanel's database features (phpMyAdmin) to import my database (first create the exact same database name via MySQL Database Wizard with username/password), Failed due to importing time out. File too large to import (>140MB), even though it may have completed uploading.

So I deleted the database/username I created via the above method. And approach the issue via SSH.

Uploaded my sql file to server.

Enable SSH in cPanel -> SSH ACCESS

Logged into SSH, webhosting ip is the host. Godaddy username/password.

CD to the folder where my uploaded sql file resides.

Typed: mysql -p -u newusername newdatabase < dbname.sql
Where I had to make sure the username matches the godaddy account, I think.

Encountered another problem when loading WP. Followed the error trail and edited wp-config.php in my WP journal folder: I changed the username to godaddy's username and the HOST to localhost, which is the new cPanel standard in Godaddy.

And it works now.

Vermont Fall Foliage

It is actually New England, not just Vermont, that presents such beauty.

A good source here.

Key words: Green Mountains, Route 100, early Fall.

Can't wait to take this trip and see the colors of maple leaves.

My Most Respected Rich Guy: Warren Buffett

Unlike most rich people, he does not make his family (children) feel any different than the commoners. Most rich people would spend spend spend.

However, my respect is only pertain to general knowledge. Similar to Socrates' an unexamined life is not worth living. Because I hold to one principle about money among disciplined persons:

Those who don't care about money, will make lots of it; Those who care about money, will lose either much money or moral.

Buffett obviously cares about money. So am I saying Buffett is immoral then? Only in the ultimate sense. For the ultimate moral code is belief in the Gospel.

Those who belief in the Gospel, would not need to defend how important money is. Hence, a lot of rich Christians would fail here.

People like Job, are good but rare examples. It is not easy. To not care about money and yet make lots of it. But this principle resonates with every verses in the Bible.
