Due to time constraint, I shall enter this journal with mixed languages.<\/p>\n
Not long ago I heard Rev. Lin mentioned about Yuan Zhi Ming's troubled case. I did not bother to investigate it because 1.) I have never fancied Yuan (\u542b\u8fdc<\/strong>\u671b\u5fd7<\/strong>\u613f\u7684\u660e<\/strong>\u661f)'s ministry after examining his testimony briefly long time ago. 2.) I did not believe Rev. Lin was the kind that does her own homework to confirm the truth, rather than by the mouths of others.<\/p>\n Just now, I came across a facebook post from a friend who if memory serves, just unfriended (or was it the other way around) Yuan, on Yuan's alleged sex crime, in details. Normally I would still skip such news (Yuan's ministry is really not worth looking at: 1.) He believed that a good enough person can be saved\/become a Christian \"\u6211\u5949\u8036\u7a23\u7684\u540d\u4fdd\u8bc1\u5979\u80fd\u4fe1<\/a>\"(\u597d\u4eba\u4e0d\u7528\u8ba4\u7f6a\uff1f)<\/strong><\/span>, 2.) He believed that science\/\u7406\u8bba and Christianity are contradictory to each other, 3.) He believes that the ends justify the means in his ministry), but my interest in the accuser's faith drew my attention. I have heard of similar accusations\u00a0 against pastors before but never was one in enough detail such as this rather than just vain or deceitful gossips.<\/p>\n This is a case between a Chinese Christian woman and the preacher\/pastor Yuan Zhiming. Her two letters are the only sources I have:<\/p>\n 1). Excerpt from First public letter (4\/18\/2014)<\/a>...\u5728\u4e8b\u5de5\u4e2d\uff0c2011 \u5e74\uff0c \u6211\u53d7\u7f57\u9a6c\u9080\u8bf7\u53bb\u53c2\u52a0\u4e00\u4e2a\u6c11\u4e3b\u4f1a\u8bae\u3002\u6211\u4eec\u5728\u7977\u544a\u4e2d\u8bf7\u795e\u786e\u5b9a\u8fd9\u662f\u4ed6\u8981\u6211\u505a\u7684\u4e8b\u60c5\u3002\u5982\u679c\u662f\u7684\u8bdd\uff0c\u8bf7\u795e\u6253\u5f00\u89c1Pope\u7684\u95e8\u6765\u544a\u8bc9\u6211\u4eec\u8fd9\u662f\u4ed6\u7684\u610f\u613f\u3002\u6211\u4eec\u60f3\uff0c \u5982\u679cPope\u80fd\u53f7\u53ec\u5168\u7403\u768420\u4ebf\u4fe1\u5f92\u4e3a\u4e2d\u56fd\u7977\u544a\uff0c\u795e\u4e5f\u8bb8\u5f88\u5feb\u4f1a\u7ec8\u6b62\u8fd9\u4e2a\u6740\u4e864\u4ebf\u5b69\u5b50\u7684\u653f\u7b56\u3002\u5728\u8046\u542c\u4e2d\uff0c\u7a81\u7136\u770b\u5230\u57fa\u7763\u8981\u6211\u9976\u6055\u4e00\u4e2a\u6c11\u8fd0\u4eba\u58eb\u3002\u4ed6\u5728\u6211\u521a\u5230\u666e\u6797 \u65af\u987f\u65f6\u5f3a\u66b4\u4e86\u6211\uff0c \u4f46\u4ed6\u540e\u6765\u5f88\u5feb\u53d8\u6210\u4e86\u4e2a\u5f88\u6709\u540d\u7684\u57fa\u7763\u5f92\u3002 \u4f46\u4ed6\u4e00\u76f4\u6ca1\u6709\u8ddf\u6211\u8ba4\u7f6a\u9053\u6b49\uff0c \u4f7f\u621119\u5e74\u6ca1\u80fd\u4fe1\u57fa\u7763\u3002 \u6211\u5728\u7977\u544a\u4e2d\u8ddf\u4e3b\u4e89\u8fa9\uff0c\u201c\u6211\u600e\u4e48\u53ef\u4ee5\u9976\u6055\u4ed6\u90a3\uff0c \u4ed6\u4f24\u5bb3\u4e86\u6211\u7684\u8eab\u4f53\uff1f\u201d\u4f46\u662f\u57fa\u7763\u5f88\u5feb\u7ed9\u6211\u770b\u5230\u4ed6\u5728\u5341\u5b57\u67b6\u4e0a\u53d7\u96be\u6d41\u8840\u7684\u56fe\u7247\uff0c \u8bf4\u201c\u4f60\u770b\uff0c \u4ed6\u4eec\u4e5f\u4f24\u5bb3\u4e86\u6211\u7684\u8eab\u4f53\u3002 \u4f46\u6211\u5728\u4ed6\u4eec\u8fd8\u6ca1\u6709\u8ba4\u7f6a\u4e4b\u524d\uff0c \u5c31\u9976\u6055\u4e86\u4ed6\u4eec\u3002\u201d\u90a3\u662f\u6211\u4f0f\u5728\u57fa\u7763\u6d41\u8840\u7684\u811a\u4e0a\uff0c\u5e26\u6cea\u5728\u5fc3\u91cc\u8bf4\uff0c \u201c\u56e0\u4e3a\u6211\u7231\u4f60\uff0c\u6211\u4f1a\u539f\u8c05\u4ed6\u3002\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u8fd9\u4e2a\u7977\u544a\u521a\u505a\u5b8c\u4e0d\u523030 \u5206\u949f\uff0c \u6211\u4eec\u7684\u540c\u5de5\u9ad8\u5174\u7684\u51b2\u5230\u6211\u7684\u8eab\u8fb9\uff0c\u201c\u7f57\u9a6c\u56de\u8bdd\u4e86\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u53ef\u4ee5\u89c1Pope\u3002\u201d\u6ca1\u60f3\u5230\uff0c \u795e\u56de\u56e0\u6211\u4eec\u7684\u7977\u544a\u56e0\u9976\u6055\u540e\u662f\u5982\u6b64\u795e\u901f\u3002...<\/em><\/p>\n 2.) 2012\u5e742\u6708\u4efd\u5de6\u53f3\uff0c\u6211\u5728\u4e00\u500b\u83ef\u4eba\u7684\u6559\u6703\u5716\u66f8\u9928\u88e1\u9762\u770b\u5230\u4f60\u5011\u5236\u4f5c\u7684\u7d00\u9304\u7247\u300a\u5341\u5b57\u67b6\u300b\u3002\u6211\u770b\u4e86\u5f8c\uff0c\u4e5f\u70ba\u90a3\u4e9b\u57fa\u7763\u5f92\u7684\u5148\u8f29\u7684\u72a7\u7272\u548c\u5949\u737b\u6df1\u6df1\u611f\u52d5\uff0c\u4e5f\u5728 \u4e3b\u9762\u524d\u70ba\u4f60\u7684\u9019\u4efd\u5de5\u4f5c\u737b\u4e0a\u611f\u6069\u3002\u6211\u4e5f\u7684\u78ba\u57282013\u5e74\u6625\u5929\u8ddf\u901a\u904e\u4ea4\u63db\u6211\u7684\u66f8\u4f86\u8cb7\u5341\u5e7e\u76e4\u9304\u50cf\uff0c\u70ba\u7684\u662f\u8b93\u798f\u97f3\u66f4\u5ee3\u7684\u50b3\u64ad\u3002\u6211\u4e5f\u8a66\u5716\u8b93\u81ea\u5df1\u9952\u6055\uff0c\u548c\u89e3\u3002<\/em><\/p>\n \u4f46\u662f2012\u5e7411\u6708\u4efd\u6642\uff0c\u5728\u5144\u5f1f\u59d0\u59b9\u70ba\u6211\u505a\u91ab\u6cbb\u91cb\u653e\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u57fa\u7763\u7a81\u7136\u8b93\u6211\u611f\u5230\u4f60\u57281990\u5e74\u5728\u666e\u6797\u65af\u9813\u5c0d\u6211\u7684\u5f37\u66b4\u662f\u591a\u9ebc\u6df1\u6df1\u7684\u50b7 \u5bb3\u8457\u6211\u3002\u90a3\u6642\u6211\u525b\u525b\u642c\u9032\u65b0\u7684\u516c\u5bd3\uff0c\u4f60\u8aaa\u4f60\u8981\u7d66\u6211\u770b\u4e00\u500b\u96fb\u5f71\u3002\u6211\u807d\u4f60\u81ea\u5df1\u8aaa\u4f60\u662f\u300a\u6cb3\u6ba4\u300b\u7684\u5275\u4f5c\u4eba\u4e4b\u4e00\uff0c\u4e5f\u5c31\u5f88\u81ea\u7136\u5730\u76f8\u4fe1\u4e86\u4f60\u3002\u4ee5\u70ba\u4f60\u53c8\u6709\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5927\u4f5c\u3002\u6c92\u60f3\u5230\u4f60 \u6211\u7684\u75db\u6068\u751a\u81f3\u5230\u4e86\u6211\u90fd\u4e0d\u5c51\u4e8e\u518d\u5728\u6211\u7684\u8a18\u61b6\u88e1\u8a8d\u70ba\u4f60\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u4eba\uff0c\u9019\u9ebc\u591a\u5e74\u4f86\uff0c\u6bcf\u7576\u6211\u807d\u5230\u4f60\u7684\u540d\u5b57\u6642\uff0c\u6211\u90fd\u5728\u5fc3\u88e1\u8aaa\u4e00\u53e5\u201c\u507d\u541b\u5b50\u201d\u3002\u53ea\u6709\u9019\u6a23\uff0c\u6211\u624d\u80fd\u7e7c\u7e8c\u751f\u6d3b\u4e0b\u53bb\u3002<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u4f60\u7576\u6642\u63d0\u8d77\u8932\u5b50\u6642\uff0c\u4f3c\u4e4e\u50cf\u500b\u6c92\u4e8b\u4eba\u4e00\u6a23\uff0c\u70ba\u4e86\u8f49\u79fb\u6211\u7684\u6ce8\u610f\u529b\uff0c\u4f60\u96a8\u610f\u5730\u8aaa\uff1a\u201c\u67f4\u73b2\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u5929\u5b89\u9580\u5c60\u6bba\u7b97\u4ec0\u9ebc\u3002\u4f60\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u4e2d\u570b\u7684\u8a08\u5283\u751f \u80b2\uff0c\u90a3\u8840\u6dcb\u6dcb\u7684\u5f37\u8feb\u58ae\u80ce\uff0c\u5f88\u591a\u5c0f\u5b69\u58ae\u4e0b\u4f86\u9084\u662f\u6d3b\u8457\u7684\uff0c\u8b77\u58eb\u99ac\u4e0a\u628a\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u982d\u6309\u5230\u6c34\u6876\u88e1\uff0c\u5c0f\u5b69\u6399\u624e\u5e7e\u4e0b\u5c31\u4e0d\u52d5\u4e86\u2026\u2026\u5c0f\u5b69\u5b50\u9019\u6a23\u88ab\u58ae\u6389\u7684\u591a\u7684\u4e0d\u5f97\u4e86\u3002\u4ed6\u5011\u8a8d\u70ba\u5c0f \u5b69\u7684\u773c\u7403\u53ef\u4ee5\u505a\u85e5\uff0c\u5c31\u628a\u5b69\u5b50\u7684\u773c\u7403\u6316\u51fa\u4f86\uff0c\u5806\u5f97\u50cf\u5c0f\u5c71\u4e00\u6a23\u2026\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u6211\u75db\u82e6\u5730\u5750\u5728\u5730\u4e0a\uff0c\u7528\u8863\u670d\u76d6\u4f4f\u6211\u7684\u88ab\u73b7\u6c61\u7684\u8eab\u9ad4\uff0c\u75db\u82e6\u6975\u4e86\u3002\u4e0d\u5149\u70ba\u6211\u81ea\u5df1\uff0c\u4e5f\u70ba\u90a3\u4e9b\u4e0d\u5e78\u7684\u6bcd\u89aa\u548c\u5b69\u5b50\u5011\u3002<\/em><\/p>\n \u7576\u6642\u6211\u842c\u842c\u6c92\u60f3\u5230\uff0c\u5728\u6211\u9003\u51fa\u8ffd\u6355\uff0c\u5931\u53bb\u5bb6\u4eba\uff0c\u5931\u53bb\u570b\u571f\uff0c\u5931\u53bb\u4e00\u5207\uff0c\u5fc3\u9748\u8eab\u9ad4\u6975\u5176\u7834\u788e\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u6211\u6703\u88ab\u4f60\u5f37\u66b4\u3002\u9b54\u9b3c\u57281986\u5e74\u79cb\u5929\u6c92\u80fd\u6210\u5c31\u7684\u4e8b\uff0c\u4f60\u57281990\u5e74\u537b\u505a\u5230\u4e86\u3002...<\/em><\/p>\n In addition to the above, I also briefly skimmed through Chai Ling's website and her testimony<\/a>.<\/p>\n I am inclined to believe Chai Ling's testimony over Yuan's (even though I have not examined Yuan's side of his story, since I cannot find one). And if what she testified about Yuan was true, not the rape part but the unrepentant part, then though Yuan would have been the rare case of a rapist turned pastor, Yuan has merely proven my points as to why his ministry is problematic (Not in a \"everyone makes mistakes\" way, but more of a \"intentionally justifying sins\" way).<\/p>\n However, I must point out a few of the theological errors common among Chinese believers:<\/p>\n 1. In Chai Ling's testimony page, she appears to believe her friend's line: \u201cNo, the Lord will use what he has prepared for us in the past to complete, a task that He has designed just for each of us. Without our work, God\u2019s plan will not be done.<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u201d ~ Reggie Little John. I have underlined the error, I need not say more, except that there is no excuse to justify it.<\/p>\n 2. In her first letter: \"\u56e0\u4e3a\u6211\u7231\u4f60\uff0c\u6211\u4f1a\u539f\u8c05\u4ed6\u3002<\/em>\", sounds nice, but I would correct it as \"\u56e0\u4e3a\u7962\u539f\u8c05\u6211\uff0c\u6211\u4f1a\u539f\u8c05\u4ed6\". Though she mentioned repentance and asked God for forgiveness in her testimony, I cannot be sure if Chai Ling truly understood repenting her sins. Most of the times her testimony of coming to Christ is about her suffering in China, seeing others suffer, etc. and that Christ is so understanding and loving her that there can be no reason to reject Christ. This kind of emotional drama conversion is apparent everywhere since the Charismatics promotion of it: \"Everyone treated me badly, except for Christ (or those nice Christians around me), so I became Christian.\"<\/p>\n 3. In her second letter: \"\u56e0\u70ba\u9019\u4ef6\u4e8b\uff0c\u8b93\u621119\u5e74\u4f86\u6c92\u80fd\u4fe1\u4e3b\u3002<\/em>\" This error follows the point above. Because Chai Ling based her salvation on how people are treated by \"nice\" Christians, this has to be her conclusion - that Yuan was to be blamed for her unbelief. What did I say about doubting her understanding of true repentance?<\/p>\n Well, that is not to say that I do not believe Chai Ling is a Christian. In fact, I would give her the benefit of the doubt, and say that she appears to be a devoted Christian, after examining the resources above. She was willing to forgive the worst kind of sinners. I believe she was sincere in that claim. The theological importance in her life remains to be seen. Is she just an activist who claims to be Christian, or a Christ-centered activist? But nonetheless, a Christian.<\/p>\n As for Yuan, if Chai Ling's testimony were true, then not only did he not truly understand what Christ's forgiveness meant (for he did not feel bad about his past sins as Zacchaeus did), but that he remains despising women deep in his heart (that women are flawed creations), and therefore revealing that he despises God in His creation, just as the one who couldn't believe that the rich and God-fearing creature, Job, could truly be faithful to God.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ==============<\/p>\n Update 01\/06\/2015: As for investigating the case, since Ling has already testified her side of the story, there are only a few logical situations on Yuan's side to prove Chai Ling wrong: I see no other alternative to justify Yuan. Some have suggested that Ling's accusation has expired (24 hours? 24.5 hours? 3 years?), others have said that everything is past now and should be forgotten now that both are Christians (Read Zacchaeus' lesson - \u8def\u52a0\u798f\u97f3 19:8).<\/p>\n Therefore, the above 3 points aren't hard to resolve. If I am wrong, then Ling's reputation is greatly jeopardized. There is also a matter of conscience: For example, one of the question Yuan must answer could be somewhat in such format - \"Even if<\/strong> you have been proven innocent<\/strong> of rape, what would you say about someone else<\/strong> who are in very similar<\/strong> situation as you but have actually<\/strong> committed the rape<\/strong> (similar to Cai Ling's version), should he<\/strong> absolutely admit<\/strong> the rape or<\/strong> there could be some special reason that he should not admit the rape and even deny<\/strong> it?\"<\/p>\n Of course, his only answer to \"pass\" my sample question is: \"yes-that person should absolutely admit the rape\" which might conflict with Yuan's own theology but may not necessarily prove him guilty. Any other responses or non-response will only look bad on him. But whether he is innocent or guilty, if there were not enough evidence found against him, we should give him the benefit of the doubt, by Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat<\/em> (presumption of innocence<\/a>). If he is truly innocence, he is truly free, Cai Ling will have the Lord to answer to for making false accusation, even if it was just a \"mistake\" or memory problem, it lacks God's glory and would still therefore be her sin, but we must also apply presumption of innocence to Cai Ling as well. If Yuan were in fact guilty, then he shall have only his conscience to wrestle with at this point, and not to be falsely accused by the public, and Cai Ling could either seek better God-fearing counsel for proofs or leave it to God alone to justify her when the day comes which is inevitable anyway.<\/p>\n I supposed there could be follow-up questions to the former, if answered \"yes\".
