I address this issue in contrast to doing ALSO for the joy, pleasure in the Lord.<\/p>\n

Although I would treat duty and support the same case here, \"support\"\u00a0is essentially less valuable because it denotes pride and disregards holiness. But this is too broad for this topic.<\/p>\n

Those who understood only duty and not pleasure are essentially in err in the following ways:<\/p>\n

  1. It is not biblical (Westminster Catechism Q.1.): we are to enjoy God forever as well.<\/li>\n
  2. It is legalistic: As long as I do it, I am better than those who didn't do.<\/li>\n
  3. It leads to Uzzah's doctrine: Those who support shouldn't not be punished.<\/li>\n
  4. It leads to jealousy: I did just as much, why he got more reward.<\/li>\n
  5. It does not grow: The parable of 10 coins. I did what you asked, why am I at fault?<\/li>\n
  6. It is a fake work: Those who truly love God would not walk in such counsel.<\/li>\n
  7. It exhibits cowardice: I don't want to face anything more than my job description.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
