Thoughts

The Fundamentalists never learn: They are likely very "solo" scriptura, but then anything they use that's reformed, is stolen from the Reformed. I said stolen because it is not their own and they do not give credit to the source, other than to God or "solo" scriptura. Some of them realized this, including David Tong, and try to do better, but they're just stuck at textbooks level, they still fail to get out of the fundamentalism circle: which is being a copycat. To get out, they need to engage in the struggles of people around them, not just understanding. This criticism, is probably the only one I give for the only son of Pak Tong.

Solo Scriptura? Bad grammar:

I guess my comment wasn't taken notice of. Again with this "solo". Probably related to this source (due to same image he copied):

There are enough online resources on this. Start here(1) (Keith Mathison/Doug Jones admitting their ungrammatical usage of it in the comments): Strictly speaking, it's irresponsible, but I wouldn't bother with it too much, because how many speak Latin? just for my own education. (2). (3).

The Chinese Translation of Keith Mathison's article is also available. It's interesting how the Chinese translated Sola Scriptura vs. Solo Scriptura = 唯獨聖經 與 唯讀聖經, got to love Chinese.

O Latin Case/declension:
Soli (dative="to something/someone" of solus) Deo (dative of Deus) Gloria
Sola Scriptura (ablative feminine="by/of/from/with/to" not nominative="to indicate subject" of solus)
Solus Christus (nominative masculine)

By using ablative form of Sola Scriptura, we say the Bible ALONE is the highest authority, NOT the only authority. Therefore, we should also take creeds, traditions and history seriously instead of blatantly reject them.

So the key is Sola Scriptura being in ABLATIVE case and NOT nominative case, which spells the same but would indicate that the Bible stands alone apart from God/anything else, and thus confusing, hence, it is likely the reason they chose "solo scriptura". But that would make either an ablative masculine or neuter of Scriptura, which is feminine.

However, technically, it can be differentiated. Using macrons, a modern approach, though I believe still grounded in ancient Latin in pronunciation and thus: rather than solo scriptura, they should use sōla scrīptūra (nominative), contrasting sōlā scrīptūrā (ablative). Basically, pronouncing the last "a" vowel longer, to have the doctrinally correct version.

Joined men's fellowship (of Redeemer) today, 2nd time after my own hiatus. Last week, saw Matt, was very encouraged. This week, not grouped with Matt, but it was ok. A few interesting topics were brought up, not enough time. Scott was kind enough to proactively invite me to speak up, twice.

This (Why Abba Fther does NOT mean Daddy) was circulated among the group in email but not touched on. But after quickly reading through it, my response is this: Abba sounds like the same as baba in Chinese. This "daddy" is more of an American thing, I can't relate it much. When I use "dad", it's equal to baba, just in English. But I guess Americans, or at least the author of this article considers dad is less respectful than abba. That's fine, I get that, but I'm sure "dad" can be used in a respectable way. Semantics.

Drew, coincidentally to my surprise, noticed the contrast between Matthew 5:16 and Matthew 6:1. I merely emphasized Matthew 5:16d: ...they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven, as the key difference.

Another play of words by Alex. Though he has some good stuff from time to time, but these play of words only displays jumping to conclusion on motives of others. A risk which often times ends on error and why I don't need to spend more time looking into at its face value. I just need to be aware of it.

Frag Farm

Though on Staten Island, this FragFarm store is the cheapest I've found near me that sells mainly reefs/corals, frags. The only problem is the $11-13 toll for crossing to Staten Island (free from NY to NJ). Depending on how many frags bought, because $15-$20 per frag is still worth it.

  • Cars $16.00 (cash)
  • $13.75 for Peak (E-ZPass)
  • $11.75 for Off-peak (E-ZPass)
  • (Peak hours: Weekdays: 6–10 a.m., 4–8 p.m.; Sat. & Sun.: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.)

My alternative could be Aquatic Obsessions, near Toko Balindo.

Lastly, Petco always has something common.

China against Chinese abroad - I thought to myself after watching this very briefly:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bv3HUzMz6U

that the 七步诗 at the end is rather motivating, though I care not much about the main content of it. I believe it can be a universally inspiring drama...to convert this song to English maybe challenging, perhaps best using Irish tunes.

First drone flight of Christmas lights in the Neigbhorhood:

Just for Laughs GAGS Asian version is filmed in Singapore. I suspected, and now was able to verify it when they brought up a map:

Which I was able to match it up with Singapore's Marina Bay.

I don't know why I do this other than it had been bothering me culturally, because all signs point to Singapore or south East Asia, but not Taiwan, not Indonesia, not likely Australia. It's like that part I could relate to but yet something's off. Now I have verified it. Thought this was just a Canadian thing.

The Wachowski Brothers are now Wachowski Sisters, or just Wachowskis. After watching the 4th Matrix movie, Resurrections, I looked up Lana Wachowski thinking that she was sister in the family who continued her brothers work...but it turns out she was the same he that made the first Matrix movies. Both brothers became transwomen within 2008-2016. Gamers of Dungeons and Dragons, it's a wonder how they could come up with such revolutionary movies, perhaps someday I'll look into it. The Resurrections did have a feminism taste in it, female general, Trinity being The One, etc.

Freshwater Fishing

Perhaps I should try it, with the nearest beach near us being known to be contaminated with Vibriosis. I have a foldable kayak that has not been tried. Time to look up those freshwater fishing spots. But unlike saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing is not free. In this country you need license for everything. Marine fishing requires permit though it's free, but freshwater license is not free. And the annual fee is around $72.25 (includes bow hunting, etc.) or $22.50 (just fishing).

Although, I just learned that there are at least 2 days a year in NJ that allow freshwater fishing without permit/license. And it may include all the day of those weeks as well. The site also has a link to this map app that shows where and what to fish. I'm not crazy about this type of fishing and am being stingy about paying to fish, so I would just need to mark these dates every year to fish for free. Large Mouth Bass seems to be a common goal.

JBL Live500BT Headsets keeps turning on

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/JBL/comments/etuedm/jbl_live_650btnc_will_not_turn_off/

Solution by Silly_Biomolecules:

I had the same problem on a 2 month old set of JBL live 500bt headphones. What worked was this series of steps:

(1) factory resetting the device by holding the + and - keys at the same time while the headphones were on
(2) while the headphone started the pairing process (blue light and pairing noise), I plugged it into my laptop usb port
(3) shut down the headphones

I think this is bug is caused when you plug the headphones into a computer while they are still powered on. Just a hunch. Hope this works for you lads

Fascia wind damage, huge storm the night before we went for vacation in the West Coast (Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Grand Canyons). I heard window banging sounds by the broken hanging pieces, but couldn't do anything about it, disturbed my sleep, had to leave early in the morning in neighbor's car to the airport, cannot do anything about it until now.

This is at the attic's level this time, so I cannot reach it like when I fixed similar problem on the first floor, by mere hammer and nails.

Our Geico insurance won't cover it because it's estimate cost is lower than $1.7k. This is estimated to about $500. So I'm calling Chinese contractors in the area I found online to get quotes. The Chinese are estimating around $800 the lowest for new replacement. Some charge up to $1500 or $1500 just for labor and many thinks I'm too remote for them.

Did Calvin celebrated Christmas?

This came up as a question in the Sunday school.

Interestingly, after searching online, I came across this:

Martin Luther: Pro-Christmas

Zwingli: Anti-Christmas

Clavin: Neither for nor against

According to the article, it's all about the difference between normative vs. regulative principles. Normative: It's okay if Bible did not mention (or forbid); regulative: It's not okay if the Bible did not mention.

Will We Remember Our Sins in Heaven?

This idea that we will forget our sins in heaven came up during the Sunday school today and I wasn't sure if this was something the American fundamentalist church held in common so I kept quiet so that I could look it up. Knowing that there's something wrong with that statement, just that I couldn't pin point what was wrong with it at the time.

After research, The PuritanBoard once again was helpful. John Calvin's too, on Isaiah 65:16-17.

I don't know why they would think that, as if being irresponsible is okay. No, we will remember our sins. What God meant was that we will not remember our sorrows, or the trouble of the past. Our eternal great joy in Heaven shall blot out the guilt, all negativity of our sins. The forgetfulness is the kind that by comparison it's like the Sun with its great light depriving the stars of their brightness, as Calvin puts it. Our memories of sins are not erased as if they were none existence to us. That is a kind of irresponsible thinking, and thus sinful.

Some from the PuritanBoard made useful comment on this:

If we praise Christ, the Lamb slain, how would we forget that slaying?

God has forgiven us completely and remembers not our debt. Meaning He does not call back the debt. Not that He has a blank in His memory about this.
