Parallel Comparison Between America and Egypt

I am astonished at this comparison by Dr. Tong in his expository on Exodus.

"The Pharaoh who knew Joseph had died. This new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph was pragmatic and felt that the Israelites were a threat as they were multiplying very quickly. So he made them construction workers. This frequently happens even in modern world. When a country becomes more developed, and a lot of foreigners come in, they were made to do the menial work that the citizens are not willing to do."

I remember trying to apply for financial aid or work study at a Christian college where the financial office staff responded with a rather prejudiced look, "Not for international students". Later I heard a Russian student was deported for working at a Chinese restaurant nearby. That was when I began to see the hypocrisy in American Christianity. At the "bible belt". Of course, not all American colleges are like that, and I also find some secular organizations are more generous than Ameristian.

The only jobs available for international students in certain areas are so rare that it would have to be illegally done or the so called "campus job" as I did, which was a dormitory night security. I have absolutely no complaints about this job, in fact, it is just the job for night owls like me, but as I think back with discernment, such distinction of foreigner with jobs within Christian community is rather sad.
