After watching Jason Kendall piloted the galaxy with Hayden Planetarium's FREE software, the Digital Universe Atlas, I am inclined to install that software again, now that I am sure it works (I gave up before because I supposed that the whole thing was just too technical for me). And apparently, many folks at the conference were surprised how well this program actually works, while they themselves also had problems similar to mine.
This is a rather unique software compared to any other (not to mention "FREE") stellar atlas. Because this is done in absolutely 3D with real data. In most constellation programs, certain details such as stellar distance is presented numerically instead of graphically.
The only major requirement is a good graphic card, or else, everything will run slow, especially when more datas are involved.
