Many Christian reviewers, especially in the United States, are of professional backrounds, especially in the field of psychology.
Nonetheless, this is not more different than playing God. Telling people what not to view.
It's much better to tell people what to view.
View movies which have historical background, cultural quality, God glorifying, etc. Not just filtering out movies with pornography. There are movies without pornography but are useless, time wasting, emotion spoiling and promote fantasies.
This is why America is under the spell of Hollywood. It will never recover from this unless she realizes that human beings are sinful by nature in the clear sense. In fact, I believe many of these so called american christian psychologists are hypocrites, yet they counsel others based on a piece of diploma and the accumulated time spent in offices, meetings, books written, etc.
Why would I say that? Paraphrasing from a pastor "Flirt with your spouse all you want, watch porno when you two are alone, etc". Another, a christian psychologist (Dr. William Viser): he and others reviewed some videos as they made an effort to prevent stores from renting pornographic movies. Although he tries never to dwell on the images, he said they are still with him. Just imagine how that would affect a child. Those are strong, graphic images. It's hard to keep them out of your mind. They stay with you for a long, long time." Again from the same psychologist: "Such early exposure to pornography can be very traumatizing" (Exposed to pornography too early? You've gotta be kidding me!) Eventhough I believe he would agree adult shouldn't go after pornography too, but that statement has exposed his skeletons. Unless they repent themselves, they could never do so well, not even well, in counselling others. Repent of manipulating wisdom into cunning, self-centeredness, self-righteousness, leveling God's standard to humanism. They need to realize that their job is not like the job of any other professions, responding only to people who pay $$$, avoiding issues they could not benefit from in forms of publicity, finance, personal security.
