Mark Driscoll vs. Paul Washer on Dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses

A Jehovah's Witness knocking on the door,

Mark Driscoll: No trespassing...can't you read the sign?

Paul Washer: You're Jehovah's witness? So am I! Well, come on in!!! (After 5 minutes listening, Paul said...You're not Jehovah's witness...sit down...let me tell you what Jehovah's witness is)

I do this contrast because I failed to accurately pin point Mark's fault before.

Not only should we have a Gospel mandate in our hearts at all times, in and out of seasons, but wisdom, love as well as last but not least - to protect our heritage as Christians.

My conclusion is that Driscoll's teenage like rebellious  characteristic is worsen when he tries to justify it upon the Word. It is a pity, despite all the great doctrines instilled in his heart.

Did you listen to what else Driscoll said in that sermon? I suggest listening to it again cause you missed some important stuff that Driscoll said right after the "no trespassing" joke.

  2. tim says:

Yes, I did listen to Driscoll's whole talk.

The point is how defensive Driscoll's example creates compared to Washer's immediate corrective reaction.

First impression is very important and it also determines your true motive in your next step.

With Driscoll's "method", I doubt one is really going to see his "evangelical" attitude during the first impression and thus does not trust his sudden possible offer of friendship.

A thing about evangelicals today is: We only preach to the seekers, those who love Christians...
    Which is just sad.

In a way, if I keep listen to the whole talk while identifying a problem in the beginning...it could be a sin of vanity.

It is better to learn to listen speedily and judge rightly.
