Last Sunday marked the first time for me and my wife to sing on stage at Hunter College together with the other volunteers.
The rehearsal a day earlier was delightful. Moving from CCCNY choir to this, is like a fish moving into water. Very professional, goal oriented, enthusiastic. I learned about the rule of parallel fourth and fifth.
I wish they have more. I may have mistaken to think Voices of Redeemer only happens once every season. There is supposed to be another performance in May, Mothers' Day. I may have spoken too soon to Micah about this.
It was a total of 45 people. Learned a few names, Arthur (a black guy who could possibly sing all 4 parts with great tones), Jason, Tony, Micah, Agnes, and "G", a Malaysian guy who was pleased to learn I am also from Malaysia. I wasn't sure if he switched his accent to Malaysian English and Chinese when he learned that of me.
There is a possibility that homosexuality is tolerated judging from the ways certain a couple of the guys were behaving. It's not clear but I think it is not necessary, judging from their male singing to behave effeminate. It makes me curious to look into the kind of side effect a father of this sort may have on his children, particularly, boys.
On the other hand, these two fellas' singing are superb. More than I.
And I just learned my previous conductor, Kent, was gay. I supposed there's more to the story, but it does answer a few thing. The gays in the musical world are more into the interest (viz. music) than physique.
