Sermon series on David (The Man of Prayer) - On Hannah's prayer by Rev. David Bisgrove

v. 5, I contrasted on what Jacob did for Joseph to what Elkanah did (gave double portion) to Hannah.

v. 2:8-10: Known as the song of Hannah. The Jews made this a foundation of prayer. At v.10, "horn" is mentioned. I thought that it was an error like Moses' horns in Jerome's Latin translation in Exodus 34:29. But it would seem not be the case here. That horn is a symbol of strength.

This time Rev. Bisgrove did a great expository preaching.

Scriptural Reading - 1 Samuel 15:10-26
Sermon series on David (The Man of Prayer) - On Saul's Rejection by Dr. Timothy Keller

Theme: Self-deception.

Keller: Deut 7:7, is circular reasoning. God loved Israel because God loves Israel. This should be a good example to illustrate all arguments are circular at their foundations. A bridge to defend attack on Presuppositional Apologetics.

v. 24: Keller: Contrasting Saul's repentance with David's. Same words. But with Saul, "I was afraid of the men and so..." he has demonstrated that he did not grasp the meaning of repentance. Hence, self-deception. So, God rejected Saul, but not David, as king.

v. 11: I must meditate on Samuel's anger and cry to the Lord.
