Been running Vista Ultimate on this newly assembled PC of mine since a month or two ago. Very satisfied, never thought I could like Vista.
However, when I tried to install Creative Sound Blaster Live! CT4830 PCI card, using a downloaded driver (which took a while to find), I faced the BSOD (blue screen of death). So I figured it's because Vista just isn't friendly enough with this old card and I took it out. (I may have to plug it in again just to make sure the driver files are deleted from Device Manager because I didn't - since I was in a hurry to see the result) I supposed I would have to order a sound card from ebay, all these for the purpose of a built-in synthesizer which doesn't usually come with the Motherboard's built-in sound system, so I could stream the piano keyboard module faster.
After taking out the sound card, a couple of problems: 1. MS Outlook 2007 failed to complete loading after the standby logo and prompt for safemode loading which works but not as normal mode, 2. deletion of files froze at "Recycling status" or "Canceling status - if I cancel".
Solution:
I hope for a better solution (Perhaps if I spend the time to plug back the old sound card and remove the drivers). But this would do now:
Disable and stop Windows Search (requires Reboot to stop) in Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. All problem solved.
During the process I did use this step to see if the recycling problem can be solved, but wasn't sure if it was the solution in addition to the Windows Search. I ran ms command console as Administrator (right click on ms dos and "run as administrator), then typed in: rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin
