Not surprising.
I've been told to lead the youth group during this year's church retreat, in spite of my principle against attending retreat unless it is of my own ministry. Then again, I'm reminded of the only curse I must face for living in the States: That the Ameristians are very good at wasting people's time, energy and money.
There is somewhat something of interest coming out of this. The more they want me to lead these youth activities, the more love is instilled within me for the other group to come - of my own ministry. Of course, there's a resounding reminder: What about this current group?
It is unfortunate that today's leaders in church couldn't read and bring up new leaders themselves, that they either import or steal people from other ministries to resolve their own problem.
What am I to do? I must discern two separate entities instead of one Ameristians. Because there's the youth whom Christ love and there's the this bunch of braindead followers whom Christ also love. I must deal with both without being reluctant and oblivious of any one. May God help me. God forbid that I should consume my life in this country.
Of course, since I am practicing: "I never disobey an order", I'm afraid I would have to take a raincheck for a promise I made to a Japanese church two years ago. Regardless, I've bought one more year to learn Japanese.

As if the youth is the hardest group compared to other younger groups.
Younger groups are more "adorable", more obedient. A stereotype? Not quite. But it is definitely a delight for the lazy folks who rather be irresponsible at leading a bunch of kids who obey and be called "teachers" than to face the consequences of the mess they make.
