So we were told that our church was flooded and the power was out. We had to temporarily move to Mt Carmel OPC for service. I've been to that church once, didn't intend to go back. So I thought this maybe a good opportunity to check out churches around the area.
Nadia found a kitchen table in Long Branch and I had found 3 Chinese churches on the way to Long Branch a while ago, thinking that there can't be just RCCC (Rutgers), which I only needed to attend once.
These 3 churches are: Monmouth Chinese Christian Church, Chinese American Bible Church, and OCM - Jireh.
I quickly listened to the sermons on the websites of the first 2, and decided on CABC once I read "We do not follow the practices of the Charismatics" in their doctrine page. Rev. George Russ was the speaker.
We had thought and were afraid that this English service is going to be a very unorganized youth service as seen in Chinese churches virtually everywhere in NYC. But not, this is the first time I saw an americanized american Chinese church where the Chinese adults speak English as if it is their first language though some with certain accent, and they are all or rather mostly 40, 50+ years old and are rather active. The English service church size is about 20. Denomination is probably Bible College/Church or Baptist. They do love reformed theology.
Later, we were invited to one of their member's home to have potluck dinner. We brought cookies and shrimp cocktail from Costco. Watched Fireproof movie.
I praise God for allow me to find this church! I told my wife that this could be our "backup" church.
