On Speaking in Tongue

After a mock Paul Washer's facebook post, I had to formulate a response:

Tongues in scripture may refer to foreign languages. Not what many today's version of "heavenly inhuman language" or more often than not, gibberish. Even so, the Apostle Paul has weighted (1Cor 14:19) words of understanding better than unknown tongue. So, if someone really insists on having some unknown tongue gift, a lesser gift for the lesser faith, let him exercise this in private, for he needs it to edify himself. Just as we are to be thankful to God for a lame to have a staff to walk, even though the rest of us walk fine with our own two blessed feet. Leave them be. Don't ridicule them, unless they begin swinging their staffs in public showing off how well they could walk with those staffs, which is obtuse.
