I remember long time ago, while I was in high school, Andrew B. Filmer attempted to correct me for using the word "nicer". There's no such word, he said. "Use more nice", he said. Years later, with the help of internet, he is proven wrong.
Around that same time, my British Council English tutor, I can't remember her name, corrected one of my essay for using the phrase: "The queens of England/Britain", she attempted to correct me by first asking me how many queens of Britain are there...I just can't believe she couldn't get my point. I should have answered something like "There were quite a few queens of Britain and there is one queen alive now.". Or perhaps she meant in the House of Windsor.
Unfortunately, I have to wait for years for internet to help me resolve these. Because one is of English speaking background and the other even a teacher, I had to take heed their words...for a moment.
I supposed this is why I sometimes rush to judgment...sometimes correct, sometimes but fewer, incorrect. There were times I was correct and they posted a challenge when the oppositions insisted on their incorrect response, these sparks my memories on the pertaining issues.
