Herod, a political leader of the Jews, was not of the line of Israelites, but of Idumaeans, successors of the Edomites, descendant of Esau rather than Jacob.
Nonetheless, he had authority among the Jews.
Today, it's not quite different. We have political leaders claiming to be Christians, yet full of hypocrisies and lack of faith.
