Latinos VS Chinese

In terms of generosity, I often times find Latinos excel in this area.

Saturday's Embarrassment

As I visited the Bronx Zoo with my free "Museum On Us" pass last Saturday, I got locked in the Zoo because I stayed too long in there. There appears to be a "Bigger" entrance gate at the Bronx River Gate (First time I used this gate for exit), and I missed it because I was so curious about this very beautiful Mitsubishi Riverwalk (It has waterfalls, well, a Dam actually), which I have mistaken for a public park. This riverwalk is actually part of the Zoo. Zoo closed at 5:30pm, I thought I was already out by then. After I read the Bible from my laptop in the supposedly public park until nearly 9pm, I walked to this huge locked gate and realized what's going on.

It's one thing to be locked up with fellow humans, but another to be caged with animals. I called 911. Police came, since they didn't have the keys, they suggested that I climbed out over the gate, which wasn't that hard but I didn't want to do it without any witnesses before. Midway of climbing, the zoo security came, unlocked, let me out. Very embarrassing indeed.

Network Hog Culprit

As I had reinstalled my computer system due to heavy virus and "about time with all the junks building up", I found a possible Network hog program after installing BitTorrent: btdna.exe

After removing it, seems that only the data receiving (And not the sending too) light is flashing now. Hope it will stop soon.

If I have to go without BitTorrent, so be it.

On Knowledge

Rev. Stephen Tong's Quote from 'The Honor of Humanity Part 10 - The Image of God's Omniscience in Man':

The establishment of knowledge needs to be based on God’s revelation and not any other motives. May God teach us not to be satisfied with what we already know, but may we continue to pursue what we should know. Things that are secondary we can pursue later, but let us pursue what God wants us to know first. And things we do not need to know, we can let go and not know them.

Those Who Do Not Wish to be Paid as Pastors by the Church

No doubt, pastors or preachers must be called by God and not by heroic ambition.

However, as for the ones in question, they love to serve, some even think they can kick out pastors, these should tell their secular employers that they shouldn't be paid their salary as well for the same reason.

I equate them to the likes of Uzzah. And there are plenty of such today. These lazy fools believe that once they have "chosen" Christianity, they could use their own understanding and their own goodness to help others.

Shouldn't all pastors and preachers spend equal if not more time and hardship in labor and study, lots of study and research than the rest?

Halloween!

Halloween (All Hallows' Even), originally a Celtic pagan harvest festival transformed by Christians
during the 8th & 9th century by moving traditional Christian feast
of All Saints' Day from May 13th to November 1st, and since the start
of day was marked at sunset at that time, October 31st and November 1st
became a 1 day celebration event. (source: WIKIPEDIA)

Well,
after my previous silent regrets, I finally got the audacity to use this
celebration of America to give out Gospel tracts to children.

I had thought of this perhaps a couple years ago, but was always seemed forgetful or lazy to do this.

Every
year, children in America will be dressing up like clowns or monsters
(mostly just clowns, especially for the younger ones) ringing household
door bells, walking around the city streets visiting stores with a
Jack-O-Lantern looking bucket, hoping to collect free candies.

I
remember hiding in my room twice (that means two years) when I heard the door bell ringing since I did not
have candy, and I knew they were no one other than the children. The first time I knew of this was not because I was familiar with Halloween practice in America, because I was not. Other than on TV shows, I had never seen this myself or perhaps missed this event somehow until I moved into the city. The first time I heard such doorbell ringing, the sound of children made me realized what was going on before I could answer the door. And it would appear that my landlord has always avoided them.

But I could never stand ignoring children, could I. So I went to the Christian book Store in Jamaica last night hoping to buy some sort of little Christian collectibles if I have to buy candies and zipper bags in grocery stores. Then I came across the Gospel Tracts on display which is so obviously meant for tonight. I prepared the whole thing last night after purchasing all necessary items. I bagged the gummy bears and marshmallows together separatedly from the rest since they don't come with individual wrappings. Perhaps I could get something more attractive (And get home earlier) next year since I wasn't quite prepared for this budget-wise (I've just remembered to do all these only yesterday). Even so, I believe I have made it eye soothing enough for the children as well as the parents who are tagging along (sometimes, especially if the children are a lot younger). I made 9 bags of them. I supposed other houses would probably have a whole single bowl of mixed candies, but I had to include my Gospel tracts, so this is the way I did it.

Unfortunately, as much as I tried to rush home from work early today, I got home around 7:40pm, which is rather late for Trick or Treat. After serving the first family with 3 children, my landlord told me that there were 2-3 doorbell rings before I got home.

Well, 3 is better than none. Perhaps more will show up today? Nah, it is now 9:27 pm already. If my memory serves me correctly, as I had observed, Trick or Treating in NYC starts from around 4pm - 7pm time frame.

Good thing I had only prepared 9 then. I was considering 25 since it was the total number of Gospel tracts in a single order, but as I was wrapping, the tedious work and the amount of candies I have made me reconsider.

I should also consider leaving the bags at the front acknowledging my landlord if I have trouble getting home early next time. Since now that he's heard from his mouse hole what happened at the door, he is a little excited and interested.

John MacArthur's Study Bible

I have recently bought Richard Pratt's "The Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible", too bad this is only in NIV. As I browsed through the Christian Bookstore in Jamaica yesterday, I realized that John MacArthur's Study Bible is a worthy reference as well.

Waiting for my coming pay, so I can buy this. After this, I should be satisfied with enough references when doing some basic hermeneutic research, in addition to the already freely available Bible notes by reknown classic authors such as Adam Clarke, John Gill, Matthew Henry, Keil & Delitzsch, JFB, Albert Barnes, John Calvin, etc.

Muslim Yoga...HAHAHA

This news of Malaysia made me laugh. It would appear that this is similar to problems modern day Christians are facing. John MacArthur had said it well: "Why use a name from a pagan religion?" during one of his Larry King interviews on CNN.

Nonetheless, it is interesting, as it alerts me to the very crucial differences between Christianity and Islam.
