Perhaps such a contraption named Pico the pocket projector will be as handy as laser pointer. Interesting, what's the technology behind the heat dissipation of the lamp?

On Ebay, there are several generic pico LED laser very portable type projectors selling for under $300 with free shipping. Now 10-12 lumens and 1000-3000 lumens is obviously a big difference. But from what I saw on youtube, the small projectors seem to be doing great as long as the room is considerably dark enough.
