On Evolution

Evolution cannot explain a lot. By mere similarities between man and ape, it derives vast theories. The fools look for the similarities, the wise look for the differences. - Paraphrase from Dr. Tong's Roman Series #75.

所以只知其同而不知其异的是笨人,能知道不同在哪里的人才是聪明人 (唐崇荣)

I've also had similar experience, but not with VCD & CD (per Tong's example). It was when I first learned of DVD and thought it was the same as VCD. Though they look similar, but they are not the same.

Although, it appears that Dr. Tong derived his conclusion from a statement from Thomas Henry Huxley & Herbert Spencer, who are both evolutionists, that said "Of moral purpose I see not a trace in nature". Although, I found that Spencer voiced the opposite, which means Huxley was against Spencer on this.

Later at the 2016 NYC Hunter College Workshop, my question finally got through. I asked Dr. Tong about his view on Theistic Evolution.

It appears that he did not dwell much on the "theistic" part except for pointing out "after its own kind" and making the distinction between micro (acceptable) and macro (the wrong theory) evolution.

He did state that he wouldn't go as extreme as Henry Morris, who appeared to be very influential in his days with the young Earth creationism.

The main and new input I got from Dr. Tong is Alfred Russel Wallace, a contemporary and peer of Charles Darwin. Dr. Tong summarized Wallace quotes as follow:
There is a gap between that which exists and that which does not exist.
There is no gap between that which exists and that which is life.
There is a gap between man and animal.

According to Dr. Tong, Darwin in his book the Origin of Species declared that "the first life must be from God." I guess I should start reading.

George Bentham, contemporary of Darwin, considered the theory of evolution mere hypothetical.

Louis Pasteur: The Theory of Biogenesis = Life can only come from other life.
