Southern Diversity

It struck me odd that the only ethnic diversity in the Bible Belt area that is obvious is in adoption cases, in spite of so many active Christian activities.

Mark Driscoll Caned by Janet Mefferd until He Hung Up

It's just really isn't Driscoll's season lately. First it was the embarrassment at MacArthur's Strange Fire Conference (outside campus), now his new book "A Call to Resurgence" is accused of plagiarism (14 page of work without giving credit to Dr. Peter Jones, @9:44min end note #5 in Chapter 2, @11:00min pg. 185-189) by Mefferd on her show as she interviewed him.

Many have complained that Mefferd kept eying at the plagiarism even after Driscoll affirmed that he would check with his publisher. They failed to realize that had Driscoll not attempted to turn around and call Janet rude in telling him what to do, etc., she wouldn't have to keep at it wouldn't she?

Finally, the simpleton's exit strategy is to hang up on people after telling them he loves them.

According to Janet, if I didn't mishear, Driscoll's publicist called the show to ask for Driscoll to be on. This really takes the cake.

In this case, I am with the woman. Driscoll is no match for Mefferd.

On the side note, @13:12min Driscoll said "There is a difference between making a mistake and committing a sin", err...no. Did Christ make a mistake?

Lastly, reading Driscoll's open letter inviting MacArthur to his Resurgence conference, I find Driscoll insincere. He loves to decorate his introduction with signs of humility, love, before his true motive, hoping that some would be caught off guard. In this case, he seems to admit that "some" of the criticisms MacArthur had on him over all these years are right on and that he would repent. Which ones? He didn't say. What Driscoll did follow up with that is that he had not given any negative comments about MacArthur. Is Driscoll playing the fairness card at the wrong time or what?

The Rich are leaving U.S.

Though only among the rich (about 2.4k in number in 2013) for now, due to tax reason, the rising emigration to Singapore, Hong Kong & Switzerland is a troubling thought, both for the States as well as the countries they move to, in causing economic chaos. Everyone for himself, how can it be good in any country?

But to say that this is "missing friends and family", it certainly does not effect me, whose friends and family are in another country. As for the Americans who are moving out, I'm sure they have been prepared to adapt. My first return to Asia convinced me of this.

Ultimately, it is how much do the Americans/British care about keeping their citizens, instead of finding scorn for those who left.

Russell Crowe's Comment on his Noah Movie

Sure, you have famous stars such as Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, etc. in the 2014 upcoming movie Noah.

But Crowe's interview reveals much of what the movie really is about...unless, he was just being a nuisance.

"The funny thing with people, they consider Noah to be a benevolent figure because he looked after the animals: 'Awww, Noah. Noah and the animals.' It's like, are you kidding me? This is the dude that stood by and watched the entire population of the planet perish. He's not benevolent. He's not even nice. At one point in the story his son says, 'I thought you were chosen because you were good?' And he goes, 'I was chosen because I can get the job done, mate." - Crowe

A few Christian articles online have been measuring the precaution needed for this movie. I say, just because it has so many cool effects in movies these days, doesn't mean we should do our own reading any less. Americans [Christians] love movies too much.

Joseph & Jesus

In our first trip to Solo, Indonesia, I had a brief but enjoying discussion with my parents about the character of Joseph.

A.W. Pink (From Gleanings in Genesis) & Ada Habershon have listed more than 100 correspondences between Joseph and Jesus. [From The Believer's Bible Commentary on Genesis 37]

With this list, it is even more unlikely to defend those who criticize Joseph's certain actions. Not that I'm saying Joseph is sinless, but to accuse one of something by mere guess without proper cause, is irresponsible and ignorant.

Worse Taxi Service from NY Chinatown

Contrary to popular belief, we had a bad experience with the Chinese cab/car/taxi service I obtained from Chinatown (some old lady was handing out the business card on the street). Driver attempt to charge more during the ride, giving rubbish excuses like we are "two families" which has higher fee not "one", or that he didn't know Riverdale is so far up in Bronx or he would have charged more than $65 (the deal was originally made at $60). He was so daring to go all the way up to $90 during our ride to the airport. Worst taxi service I've ever faced.

Driver is apparently Fuzhounese. Giving Fuzhounese a bad name. I'll go to Fuzhounese Chinese take out anytime, but will give a second thought for another Fuzhounese Taxi service.

The Mask of Praises and Favoritism

I have come to believe that those who are eager to praise (only towards ones with certain credentials) or exhibit favoritism to others, are hiding something which I have realized. When they criticize others of...say...pride, self righteousness, etc., those are the very characteristics they are covering in themselves. By being all about praising, nice, etc., while the opposite features are obviously suppressed, yes, it is obvious, for they do find opportunities to vent these hidden traits.

It would appear that they also firmly believe this is a fruition of their mature experience. That it is the ultimate ethic.

The question would be, if this is so, how should I go about breaking such foundation when I must?
