Metrocard Deactivation

Yesterday, while arriving at the 7 train Main Street station, I was suddenly unable to use my metrocard. For the first time, my swipe shows "See Agent". Apparently, this cheap card I bought from a black guy was a stolen one. Didn't quite see that one coming. Always thought if they wanted to scam, selling expired cards could have been easier.

Had to by a full price $89 30-day card immediately. Funny how it was still working when I took the bus prior to the subway. At least I've only lost 9 days out of a $50 card, that's still cheap.

After much consideration, I would still go with some cheap tickets on craigslist. $90 is just too much. But I do have to watch out for $50 deals. I didn't know a card can be deactivated like that - must be a credit card order originally, at least that's the only way one can get refund, the last I heard. Perhaps noting the reason of sales is more crucial now, despite the fact that they can lie about that.

On Love and Hypocrisy

It is a common error today's Christians often blur the fine line between hypocrisy and love.

Nevertheless, a love that's without truth, without holiness and only result in hypocrisy. In fact, such love is not love indeed. It is a lie whilch is so powerful one could easily fool oneself with.

Jesus in Japan?

Not a topic hard to find since I first and last heard it in one of Dr. Stephen Tong's lecture.

Apparently, this cult of Shingo of Aomori somehow considers themselves descendant of Jesus. They claim, based on some 1933 discovery of Hebrew text which is said to be lost in Japanese authorities seizure, that Jesus went to Japan at 21 to study theology for 12 years and his brother took his place on the cross while he fled to Japan to have a family of his own.

Though it is an interesting add to the collection of the "Jesus did not die on the cross" heresy.

Well, it is certainly a place to visit if I've learned to read Japanese text.

Vatican dissing on film Avatar

This is one of those few moments I commend the Roman Catholic church.

"Nature is no longer a creation to defend, but a divinity to worship" by Vatican Radio.

The last one was on homosexuality. Once again, the Vatican sobers on God's doctrine against misusing our God given human status on this planet, regardless of the intention. Something many evangelicals today would work very hard to be irresponsible of.

Though we do give credit where it's due, in reply to the popular response "it's just a movie", I would ask: If I were to give you a BEAUTIFUL cup of poison, would you still drink it and say it's just a cup?

Recalling a yough group sunday school I taught this past Sunday, the topic was on global warming. I've used resources from Nicenecouncil.com which brings attention to a sound mind towards facts and information given by media such as Al Gore's An Iinconvenient Truth. Speaking of Avatar, I didn't brought up the name, but merely hinted the increasing existence of such movies which level mankind and other creations on the same qualitative plane of position when I brought up the term "Gaia Hypothesis". The reason I didn't bring up the title "Avatar" or any other is because I want them to judge it themselves while I establish the foundational principle of clear sobriety. After all, no one told me about Avatar and I was well aware of the problem once a hint of "mother planet" came up half way during the show.

The 3D effect is incredibly detail. Or maybe it's been a while since I last went to a cinema theater and I think this was my first full length 3D movie. The plot on the other hand is nothing new. It is merely bringing the American Indian's cultures and beliefs into space.

Browsing in Full Screen without F11 from User

In order to simulate the TOEFL iBT test as directed by the school I worked for, I've concluded that the best way to program it is to have it done in html and php. I would imagine VB (used by perhaps some commercial ones) or Java (the one used by ETS) are just too time consuming for me, given my lack of experience with these.

But in order to hide as much obvious indication that one is taking a simulation from a browser, I've been haunted by this fullscreen problem for days. Sure F11 would have solved it, but to have it done without any user's interference is tougher than I thought. Apparently the window.open method in javascript doesn't hide titlebars anymore in both IE and firefox browsers. If there's a way via javascript, I have yet to find one. By reading further online, I gathered that Java or flash wouldn't work either as the programmer would have to deal with disabling keyboard shortcuts or focusing issue as the applets are in a way in their own "windows".

My solution is to have Internet explorer (I can live IE in this case) opened up in Kiosk mode. “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE” –k www.cnn.com

With the commandline implemented in the shortcut, it is exactly what I wanted. The bonus is, even F11 is disabled in this -k Kiosk mode that the users wouldn't be allowed to get out of the fullscreen at will, unless they Alt-F4 to close it.

So two, but minor issues remain:

1. It's users are limited in certain way. I would have to create shortcuts on every stations.

2. Only IE can do this and I'm not sure up to which versions.

Nevertheless, I can move on to the next stage in this project...boy, I've spent too much time on this...whatever little dissatisfaction I still have has to do with wanting to have this done by scripts and codes still for universal usability's sake.

Mother Teresa's confession

When talking about the weakness of this great individual who had remarkable influence in India, one often would recall her confession of how she felt no presence of God for 50 years at the end of her life.

I would conclude this: It is not God who strays but we; It is not God who has abandoned us but ourselves; It is not God who is not present but we who weren't standing before Him when He called to us.

Loose not Thy hand, until Thou hast made me a blessing, O my Lord!
