Ecumenical Movement of Reformed Churches

I must say, after reading the news regarding WARC and WEC, it is rather scary.

I wonder if this sort of unity has more to do with a Reformed Church or just "Unity". For it has been clear to me after visiting some of the so called reformed churches which are congregated mostly by westerners, that they have stopped learning the Bible with the wisdom passed down by great reformers, instead, they are more interested in keeping the superficial pride of tradition, some even associate this pride to their ethnicity and if not so, they would follow the World Peace concept of John Lennon which was merely a minion of the Babel Tower in disguise.

Those who follow this path of world peace do not realize that they are giving God's glory for others to step upon.

As a reformer, I find myself truly abhorred by the foolish ecumenical movement, but at the same time, regretting that I did not do enough. May my Lord bless with mercy to move me forward absolutely in His full guidance and instructions.

World Peace

It is remarkable to listen to some preachers talk about world peace. However, this is rarely said among Chinese Christians. The Western theology has been stupefied by new age elements coupled by a social condition that neither strives nor want to suffer for the Lord.

"Has anyone prayed for world peace recently?" was the phrase a western pastor spoke to the congregation last week. Of course, the first thing that came to my mind was being skeptical about the pastor's understanding of "world peace". Then in a short moment, the verse "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold." Matthew 24:12, popped into my head. Despite the new age influence, what if the pastor's intention was merely naive and sincere, and that's as much limit as God would permit her.

Then again, the call to shepherd-hood is not something to be taken likely. One must walk through the fire, instead of standing by the side and even forbidding others to walk through.

World peace...many will strive with love in this context, but in a way, it is selfish. Therefore, the prophecy of Matthew 24:12 will be fulfilled. The kind of peace God wants for us to have is the one that is by God's will, that glorifies Him. Simply put, one cannot hope for peace without diligently reading the Bible.

And it is our duty to choose our reaction towards these foolishness wisely, so that we will not be snared by anger and laughter, and still able to endure our love, the holy love.

The Fools Would Only Prove Themselves More Despicable But...

Pro 29:9  If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

Pro 29:9  智慧人与愚妄人相争,或怒或笑,总不能使他止息。

I prefer Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary and Albert Barnes' Notes upon this verse:

"whether ... laugh — The fool, whether angry or good-humored, is unsettled; or referring the words to the wise man, the sense is, that all his efforts, severe or gentle, are unavailing to pacify the fool." JFB

"All
modes of teaching - the stern rebuke or the smiling speech - are alike
useless with the “foolish” man; there is “no rest.” The ceaseless
cavilling goes on still." Barnes

If the "rage or laugh" from the verse refers to the fool's
reaction, then it is to say that the wise man should not have done so.
But it is the wise who would rage or laugh, which are the natural
effects towards the impenitent response of the fool, then there is a
lesson for all of us who seek wisdom in order that we control ourselves
in proper use of anger and wise teaching, and not let restless anger or
scornful humor turn us into heartless beings. So that when iniquity
abounds, our love shall endure unto the end.

Avoid Sleepiness

I believe we feel sleepy when our brain starts to lose connections to relevant matters, arbitrarily skipping from non-relevant subjects to another.

Parallel Comparison Between America and Egypt

I am astonished at this comparison by Dr. Tong in his expository on Exodus.

"The Pharaoh who knew Joseph had died. This new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph was pragmatic and felt that the Israelites were a threat as they were multiplying very quickly. So he made them construction workers. This frequently happens even in modern world. When a country becomes more developed, and a lot of foreigners come in, they were made to do the menial work that the citizens are not willing to do."

I remember trying to apply for financial aid or work study at a Christian college where the financial office staff responded with a rather prejudiced look, "Not for international students". Later I heard a Russian student was deported for working at a Chinese restaurant nearby. That was when I began to see the hypocrisy in American Christianity. At the "bible belt". Of course, not all American colleges are like that, and I also find some secular organizations are more generous than Ameristian.

The only jobs available for international students in certain areas are so rare that it would have to be illegally done or the so called "campus job" as I did, which was a dormitory night security. I have absolutely no complaints about this job, in fact, it is just the job for night owls like me, but as I think back with discernment, such distinction of foreigner with jobs within Christian community is rather sad.

Critieria for American Co-workers in Christ

The first, should be to investigate if they are not spoiled by any of their parents. Nor should they have problem in honoring one of their parents. Must be as thorough as history.

Job Ads for Christian Workers

http://www.premierjobs.org.uk as announced by Christian Today would just be another job agency that I believe makes no different from secular classifieds. Therefore, not a necessity to be separate. However, it is a good gesture of Christians today trying to keep up with technologies.

I'm amazed at how much salary is offered to some of these "volunteers". They are more luxurious that those who were paid minimum with more labors in the U.S., perhaps even in England.

Sermons on Job by John Calvin

It would appear that there's no modern English translation for this sermon series. I thought I've seen it before. Perhaps in that case, this would be the first one of all John Calvin's not-yet-available-in-digital-English-work I will copy.
