Sunday Service and Sunday School

Lord, quickly come! That is implied from Rev. 22:20. The Fundamentalists such as Janet Mefferd often use this phrase in her prayers in a annoying tone, that's the dispensationalist talk. One could be tempted to hate that phrase not knowing the biblical reference, because although we do not pray this such that we find mankind despicable, but we long to be with our Lord with the lessons we suffered through Him.

So when the pastor mentioned this in the end of the service, I looked it up. Stephen Tong confirmed this in his Ephesians 1:11-14 lecture series. Most commentaries are on board as well.

We had a guest speaker, Bruce, from Mission to the World, for Sunday school, service and fellowship meal sharing. His 20+ years of mission field work in France was interesting. I had not known how Muslim the south of France has become, particularly in the city of Nimes, where he stayed. MTW has a rule of living with the people, so essentially they would live in the poor project community. However, what I did not get clearly was how their mission works are done, was it only cafe talk only, where is the risk of life, etc. Bruce gave a brief overview of church history from Morocco to Tunisia and some info about Islam. At lunch time, he shared testimony of 3 people he encountered. It was hard for him to follow up with certain individuals, which led me to wonder and even brought it privately to him, whether the fact that they do not follow discipleship with him consistently was due to the fact that they do not see him as someone they would trust, someone who's living among them is mere superficial, temporary, and when things gets tough, he could just leave and enjoy his home in Pennsylvania, USA. Who would trust living and depending on someone like that in the poor community? I asked politely, "...that I hope you could debunk". He politely tried to debunk my theory. Suggesting that another possibilities are: busy in work (Satan's work schedule...something like that), fear of being identified as infidels of Islam. I did not have enough time to ask him of the life risk, as I do not want to delay too long for him. I tried to only ask him questions directed at his own experience, and not what he knows about Islam or history or the Berber's education level or basically what I already know or could search from the Internet, which are what others usually ask as well as what he focused more on telling.

Missionaries from America don't easily impress me. Particularly the ones that return to America as a "break". I have no problem with those who "retire" back home at an old age like Mabel Williamson, but I am skeptical of those who appear to mix missionary work with business vacation. In today's case, I cannot conclude either, due to lack of information. I took as much materials he's printed as I could, about MTW and the Muslim/Berber outreach program, to know more about how American missionaries function, particularly in Muslim countries or rather, communities.

At Fellowship Meal, I asked Pastor Chris who are his favorite theologians/preachers: Martyn Lloyd Jones, J. C. Ryle, R.C. Sproul, B. B. Warfield, Calvin [this is understatement], Joel Beeke, Bob Jones Jr., and pretty much all the reformers he said.

      回教可兰经与圣经有个很重要不同之处.就是耶稣不是上帝的儿子。回教相信上帝无受生,上帝不被生也无受生,所以上帝是自存永存的,是独一的那一位,因此没有所谓上帝的儿子,也没有所谓上帝的独生子,更没有称上帝为父的事情。可兰经的前部,对上帝的尊称共有九十九种,就是缺乏一种,那一种就是“父上帝”,而基督徒称上帝为父,他没有的我们有,我们有的他没有,为什么呢?因为回教认为耶稣不是上帝的儿子,当然没有资格称上帝为父了。100少1剩下多少呢?剩下两个零,如果上帝不是父,那么其它99个就没有意义了。

      回教与基督教有很多不同之处,回教不信上帝是父,不信基督是独生子,这是回教徒自己说的,是默罕莫德承认的,可兰经是迦百列赐下的,而全本圣经宣布耶稣是上帝的儿子的有许多的使徒、有旧约的预言,但是在所有千千万万天使中,只有一位讲耶稣是上帝的儿子,就是迦百列。回教徒领受的启示,耶稣不是上帝的儿子,却又承认是从迦百列得到启示,偏偏在圣经中讲到耶稣是上帝的儿子的又是迦百列,这正如保罗所说的:“如果有人传福音给你,与我们所传的不一样,无论是天使,甚至是天上的使者,如果传的不一样,就应当被咒诅。”我在印尼很多次用印尼文对回教的学者提到这一件事,但是到今天为止神还不许可我进入监牢,可能是时间还没有到吧。即使有一天我进入监牢,我会感到那是很难得的布道机会,因为我恐怕一生都没有机会见到那些人。我已经预备好了。如果有一天我被选为殉道士之一,我会感到很光荣,因为这不是可求的,是可遇不可求的。

      回教相信耶稣是六大先知圣人之一,但是却比默罕莫德更小;他们相信耶稣以后要再来,再来时所有的宗教都归回回教;他们相信耶稣再来时要结婚,娶一个回教徒的妻子。回教认为上帝拯救了耶稣,就把犹大改头换面,耶稣的面就像犹大,犹大的面就像耶稣,所以一抓的时候,其实所抓到的是犹大,不是耶稣,因为上帝太爱耶稣,耶稣死前恳切祷告,上帝就因为他是义人,听了他的祷告,没有让他死。所以回教与基督教有很多不同之处。
