By using the right, simple to the point definition for Predestination vs. Arminianism when someone asked "What is Calvinist/Arminian" on Facebook which she later was convinced that she held to the Calvinist's view and I replied "God be praised". I had a hard time tracking but after using Facebook's cool feature of downloading your entire comments (and also possible for other contents), I managed to find it easily. So here it is:
Kristina Grace
What does it mean to be an Arminian?
Darien Lam
Kristina Grace
Arminian: God chooses me because I chose him.
Calvinist: I choose him because God chose me.
Low-IQ-but-wants-to-join-the-rank: Both are right.
Defender-of-the-Low-IQ-but-still-not-enough-IQ: It's both right and both wrong.
The vengeful son of the low-IQ: Everyone's wrong, for I follow Christ.
Kristina Grace
Darien Lam I think I like the calvinist view best
Darien Lam
Kristina Grace God be praised
David Mills
Darien Lam Accurate!
Ray Ortiz
Darien Lam very well put
The Defender of the Low IQ response to this would be someone like Ken Ham: I’m both Calvinist and Arminian, and I’m neither Calvinist nor Arminian.
Now there's this Mike Winger whom I would group under "vengeful son of the low IQ": "Are you Arminians going to stand before God and say: God you are evil? Blasphemy! Are you Calvinists going to stand before God and say: God you are weak? Blasphemy!"
And my response, calling out at least 3 logical fallacies:
Sounds shallow: the one who is right can defend the accusation. So it's called apologetics, something this guy apparently doesn't get, other than what the Gospel is. This is called pride which leads to his foolishness/low IQ. The logical flaw he is applying is called red herring: A is wrong, B is wrong, what's right is 1+1 = 2, so only I am right. This is apologetics 101, something both arminians and calvinists evangelists would be very much aware of.
Thus he can take his own medicine with the Islam god, JW god, mormon god, etc. (i.e. Are you going to stand before the triune God and call Him illogical? A liar?) And see his own logical flaw, which is another 101 fallacy called Strawman argument: You see someone rejects A, so you falsely accuse him of accepting A. If he cares.
Also (wow! This is good) another fallacy he committed is called fallacy of the converse: If he is right about A, then God is evil/weak; he is right about B, therefore God is evil/weak. i.e. if there are Arminians who are saved in heaven, as Calvinists have no problem with that in their theology, and vice versa, Mike Winger is saying that therefore the Arminian/Calvinist view of God must be 100% correct or at least the "God is evil" or "God is weak" part. This fallacy is very revealing how bad Mike's take on the Gospel could be.
I wouldn't be surprised if one day he ends up saying all religions (including Christianity) are the same.
