Swimming at 6 A.M.

Finally I got up early enough to be at the pool before 6 AM and my, do people wake up early. And since it's closing in on the autumnal equinox (Sept 22 2009), it's dark enough for me to spot Venus, even Sirius, Procyon and Betelgeuse. Most are old folks though, as seen below. Lapped for 30 minutes, had a quick breakfast, fried meehoon and cold soymilk at Ah Hong's restaurant (Vietnamese/Malaysian) for $3.

Best Fiber food rated by "Experts"

I do enjoy oatmeals, which in addition to swimming helps prevent constipation. The rich fiber (most of such products, but may not be all of them) is known to prevent heart disease and diabetes. I've just come across this article which listed best CEREALS out of 18 tested by Consumer Reports.

First being Kirkland Signature Spiced Pecan cereal (Costco).

Then we have:

•Kashi GoLean Crunchy Fiber Twigs

•Soy Protein Grahams and Honey Puffs

•Archer Farms Cereal High Fiber (Target)

•Kellogg's Raisin Bran Extra!

•Post Shredded Wheat Spoon Size Wheat 'n Bran

•Great Value Raisin Bran (Walmart)

•Barbara's Bakery Ultima Organic

Ah, I finally solved who Pastor Stephen Chan resembles

Compare and Contrast

It had always perplexed me as to some familiarity of Pastor Stephen Chan. Now I know, reminded of the person "Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon" after reading a news article. The familiarity is perhaps in more ways than mere facial resemblance. Highly educated and all.

At least I can say this, despite the ability and accuracy of facial recognition by different individuals, a person's look combining with his/her attitute and other acts, does influence our subconscious perception to some extend - causing us to either misjudge or correctly judge any other person we meet.

For Them and the Church

In my memory, a recollection of the past when I was back in my formal church, trying to find good churches for those who live afar yet still travel to CCGC for service, like myself. Because I believe - showing support and "loyalty" and lasting friendship are one thing, but truly seeking after God in worship and learning to grow in Him with the best use of time and energy cannot be denied as God's will. Therefore, whether they stay or not, I have tried considering as much criteria as possible, from spiritual attitudes to motives, and dealt with it.

Therefore, I was even very open to extension of CCGC as a new branch, if not other churches.

Then it is obvious, for those that wish them stay and travel long, whether their motives lay in themselves or their "vision".

For their anxiety is for themselves and the church; while I but for those whom God loved and the church.

Spiritual Warfare of the "Real" Church

At first glance, I thought this article was just some whining of some old "christian" who's finally admitted the state of today's churches. But as I read line, a few phrases caught my eyes:

"Crabb says that while he is hungry for spiritual formation, most
churches just focus on solving particular social or emotional problems
rather than members' spiritual problems. He described many churches as
"self-help clubs"."

"A real church would be immersed in the Bible whether it is through the
pastor’s sermon, Sunday school, or small group discussion, Crabb said."

And the article seems to fall towards Stoicism. Perhaps due to lack of Biblical piety, research and knowledge, though realizing the need of such. One could easily compare the literatures of some great pioneers such as Augustine, John Calvin and the likes, and see the see how far behind we are right now.

Nonetheless, those phrases are well worth the read.

Windows Server 2008 Time Synchronization from NTP

Since there's no easy way to set an "internet time" on Windows Server 2008, this software: Time Service Agent is quite helpful. Which is a GUI way of configuring w32tm.

Choosing a Watch

A watch that's not waterproof enough for swimming is practically useless to me. I have to dump the last one I bought into the trashcan after my swim. Good thing it's a cheap watch from the streets.

Why Today's Churches Lose People

Today's churches loose pious-wanna-be people because they teach not the truth. They teach not scripture, they preach not scripture. Yet they say they do. Which is why pious-wanna-be people passed by, because of the claimed "scripture preaching and teaching environment", and left, because of being "cheated".

To Choose a non-Christian Girl who is yet a Christian

Perhaps show her the movie "Ben-Hur" and then the Mel Gibson's "The Passion of Christ", and observe her reaction.

Church Summer Retreat

Yesterday, many asked me why I did not sign up for the summer retreat. My response was simple, "that I'm not interested". It is amazing how they reacted.

Americans love partying, drinking beers and dancing and fooling around.

of course, this is not what my church does. However, there are certain events held by the church which is just not for every member or everyone. This retreat vacation, is certainly one of them.

Now many of them seemed to confuse "serving" with "going to retreat". If you want someone to co-work or serve, then make sure they are going to the retreat first. I remember old pastor David Chen's "method" of attracting a fellow brother to a retreat a few years back in my formal church. He said "we need drivers, please come!", and he was speechless after the dear wise brother replied "No problem, I will drive them to the camp site and then I will go back."

I used to think one would be speechless and EMBARRASSED because of the hypocrisy being exposed. But then again, these hypocrites might even have themselves fooled that "Oh...it's not my fault, it is them who don't co-operate".

Is this really how we resolve the issue? when we couldn't make something worth attracting others? Does the end justify the means? Nay, not even one single end should justify the means no matter what.

Unlike them, my time is limited. I must know what precious time my God bestowed upon me before my time in America, and use it wisely. Even if I'm invited to be speaker or any other crucial position, I cannot let this influence my judgment and God's calling.

Could God be using others to call us to something? I believe definitely. But to waste my time in idle affairs for even 1 second, I must be quick and sensitive enough to abhor.

And so, now that they are spared from causing a brother to sin, despite whatever misunderstanding they may have, it is my duty to continue keeping myself disciplined.
