Men and Earrings

Earrings on men, in general history, signify slavery.

When then would a man wants to wear earrings?

David Leach has the following:

I admit, I was curious enough to see if there was any consensus online about this issue. There isn’t. Though I did find a funny line from some unnamed wag that I wish I would have thought of first: "If God wanted you to wear earrings He would have made you a girl."

However, if there was anything near a consensus I would suppose it would be that males wearing earrings is considered a matter "indifferent." Which is to say, Scripture does not forbid it, thus it becomes a matter of taste and preference. Perhaps in the final analysis, that is true, but I confess, being the culturally bound child of the 1950′s that I am – I still have stubborn problems with the practice, which I will list for your consideration.

1. Earrings, at least in my time, were associated with effeminate behavior and homosexuality. Since these types were the first men to wear earrings in our modern culture, you will excuse me if I do not rush to the nearest jeweler to join the happy (gay?) parade. This fact alone ensures for perpetuity my absolute resolve in the matter. No earrings for me, not ever.

2. Earrings are worn to highlight facial beauty, so I am unclear why a man wishes to be thought beautiful. Maybe it’s best to be unclear about some things.

3. Historically, (not absolutely, but generally) earrings were worn by pirates and slaves. My time in the Navy was sufficient for me, and I have no desire to float about the Caribbean growling "arrrrghhh matey." And since I consider myself a slave to no man, and only a servant to God – and God does not require it or even encourage it, I am completely uninterested.

4. If you know me, and chances are likely you do if you are reading this, I am almost always reluctant to follow pop culture into it’s latest transient preferences. I freely admit that I do wonder about men and women who feel compelled to follow every new pop cultural nuance.

5. I think women are grand, super, wonderful beyond words…but I do not want to be a woman. Look like a woman. Act like a woman. Nor do I wish to be part of any process, no matter how seemingly benign and trivial, that blurs the already way too blurred lines between men and women.

6. I am uncool. I like being uncool. I work at it, I yearn for it. If wearing earrings makes one cool, God help me to be the "uncoolest" man in the world.

Videolan with 3D SBS

When dealing with Side by Side 3d videos, usually the Blu-Ray type, a quick fix for converting to 2D in vlan is:

GO to effects & Filters >> Video Effects >> Wall >> Rows = 1, Cols = 2.

Then Change aspect ratio to 16:9 or etc. under Video menu.

"When I Say I Am A Christian"

There has been floating around this article, a poem by Carol Wimmer, in the internet world.

The first time I came across it, my first impression was that the author, or the promoters, must have some kind of emtional instability.

I would just comment now, that the poem though shows to be an orthodox wannabe, has too many "I" in it. If I were to do a soundbite in response, I would say: Go look up the word "Paradox".

Donation vs. Offering - Another look

I think it is sad that so many good ministries in the States ask for donation as their main funding source.

They do not hold rally, preaching to crowd of people in spite of the abundant resources available directly to them. And they compensate this lack of income to "duty" of christians "supporting" their ministries.

I'm not saying that this sort of funding is at all negative. But I bet if I ask those like MacArthur, Sproul, etc. what's their main source of funding to their global ministries? "Donations from listeners" is their response. There is no distinction of offering, no distinction of Christians in the "supporters". With this kind of superficial comfort, there is no need of Gospel battle in a more personal way, the same personal level between God and man they have been preaching on radio. The kind of preaching that's less confrontational, less personal.

Knowing their conviction, I wonder how they teach others not to just stay at home listening to the radio for spiritual nourishment. If they have gained such fame, are they satisfied with just having people in their own churches in their own towns? This is the reason I will have more respect on Tim Keller, despite the problem myself and the others have commented on the issue of The Manhattan Declaration (Affirmation of Marriage as only between one husband and one wife). Which of these have brought their ministries to New York City? Sad indeed.

Pride of Giving

Not accepting gratitude may be a Chinese virtue; but it is a heinous crime before the Holy Creator.

For that is pride at its ugliest.

Jesus said in Luke 14:14, that one is blessed to give to those who cannot repay. He did not say give to others who can appreciate but refuse their gratuity. This is not the way to seek the Kingdom reward. Christ was calling for a giving to those who has no reason to appreciate.

The proud listens not to this teaching, but merely twists it. Therefore, they want others to need them. They need others to need them. And by refusing payment (refusing payment is not the same as revoking/forgiving payment), they feel they have maintained their "compassionate" status. Such selfish pride, should not be present in any Christian.

Should they think they are "that" compassionate, then let's see how they treat strangers and the homeless.

Wake On Lan Issue: Cannot Wake after long or unplugged power down

After long shutdown, Magic Packet somehow cannot reach the target pc.

Ethernet connection, BIOS setting, NIC adapter setting, checked and updated.

Only one missing fix I didn't try but according to research, it is better to not use a built-in NIC card, but get a third party, especially an Intel based.
