One Must Die to Live

It is a Watchman Nee thing. That one must physically suffer a sort of near death experience, be it illness, emotional desperation, etc. in order to actually gain that eternal bliss of life.

Such is not the saying of Colossians 3:3. For when it is said: You are dead, or You have died...it is a current present condition. Not a past one.

Book Review: A Portrait of Paul by Rob Ventura & Jeremy Walker

Chapter one talks about finding joy in ministry.

"Do not make it your job in life to provide scope for his greater sanctification. pg. 16" is a loud warning to many. I think it is well stated. Though, I wouldn't put it with the verse Heb 13:17. Because I believe the verse calls for a submissive heart, not a non-judgmental one, which I think putting these two statements together might imply. Do not make it our job in life for someone's sanctification is due to the fact that we are not third party observer and we rather play the role of pastor ourselves as example, when we think if we have any job of contributing to one's sanctification.

One thing obvious about the authors of the book is that they permit not female pastors. Not mentioned directly, but the use of "brothers", "he", etc. in reference to pastor at all times is plain.

Here are my highlights:
pg. 16
The more you love your people, the more their pains and grief will become yours.
More love...more pray, visit.
More love...more constrained to address sins.

pg. 17
There will be those persuaded that they are called to lead who show no inclination to serve.

The old paths, rest for the soul. Jeremiah 6:16

pg. 18
There is no crown without a cross...

1 Thessalonians 1:6 receive the word in much affliction. Can a pastor say this to the flock?

Psalms 139:23-24
Asking God to search my heart to bring out wicked way.

And words of Comfort and cause for joy from scripture:
2 Cor. 4:17-17
2 Tim. 2:12
Rom. 8:17

Journal Transfer: Psalm 1:1 (July 8, 2012)

Psalms 1:1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.
Therefore I must be watchful of those talking alongside but toward me.

Nor standeth in the way of sinners.
Therefore I must be wary of the fellowship not of my founding but that I am involved in.

Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Therefore I must be cautious of whom I converse but associate not with.

And my delight is the word of God, which I must meditate day and night.

The paradox of being joyful among men, praising God, is such.

Perhaps, I may visit this from time to time and revise the above.

Foison

In old style, Foyson. Very old term, most dictionaries don't have it.

Means strength, harvest, abundance.

Mysterious Red Sprite photos by astronaut

Known to come on top of heavy lightning, first captured in 1989, these red sprites have mysterious origin. Hot air?

Picasa Gallery Limits

It appears that though having 1GB limit for free account, picasa does not count 2048 x 2048 pixel image files (for google+ users) or under 15 minutes videos.

I'm reaching my limit after that Terracotta soldiers post. Which has all photos over the free pixel limit. Time to consider adjusting my future uploads.

Fort Totten

I cannot believe I have missed or mistaken this for rich private veterans property, for since perhaps my move to the city. Q16 bus to the end, I used to go fishing (only a couple of times actually) nearby.

Fort Totten Park has public swimming pool, a huge area of abandoned military buildings like that of the Governor's Island. All these seem hidden to me because of the "serious" seemingly well guarded entrance gate. I have never seen any public park guarded like this before. But apparently, after inquiries, I learned that the park seems to open 24/7, though there is curfew at night...9pm, I think.

What is great is that I have found the best spot for the most natural, most peaceful, perfect devotional location without distraction. In the morning, as early as possible (5, 6am), I could just find a spot, facing the Great Neck sea, sit down, read my Bible out without any worries of distraction from or to others.

I learned this last Sunday, on bike, when I came home early from church. The next morning I began my first devotion there.

This fun may be short lived, if my move is further away when I get married.

Terracotta Soldiers in New York City

With Groupon's half price, I went to the museum (Discovery Times Square). This is the second time to the museum. The first time was for the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Since I was doing it between office hours, I do not have time to waltz in the museum. So I took a complete photo with my HD smartphone camera and created the gallery. With full description. To my knowledge, I have covered all wall posts, labels and exhibits. I would say a 2 hour job. After I took a brief camcorder tour.

Skimmed through the store. Didn't buy anything. It has terracotta copies, and such. Worth it to return (to the store).

Drought in USA 61%

Economical disaster is not enough, Americans are to prepare for something perhaps the Soviet didn't need to worry much for, the two third land drought.

Of course, Americans can always rely on imports, as usual, which is what crippled their economy in the first place. But they do love their diplomatic policies don't they.

New Noah Film in 2014

Played by Anthony Hopkins, not the role of Noah, but the grandfather, Methuselah, longest lived man recorded in the Bible, 969 years old.

Noah and his wife will be played by the actors of A Beautiful Mind couple: Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly.

Would this be as big as Cecil DeMille's?
