Bible Study: Psalm 5

This psalm is a rigtheous defense against the lies spoken for (not against) us.

Covenantal Apologetics vs. Presuppositionalism

It appears that Van Til's presuppositionalism is due to the fact that he is evangelical while the later Westminster Theological Seminary's intent to transform that apologetics into "covenantal" apologetics, I believe, is due to the fact that the WTS (namely William Edgar, Scott Oliphint) is becoming less evangelical.

They rightly point out that presuppositionalism is one, unlike other apologetics (classical, evidential), that doesn't start the discussion from a neutral ground (outside the scope of scripture) with unbelievers. But in covenantal apologetics, one is more inclined to treat his subjects as believers already...thus here is the problem of the evangelism. From here spun the problem of many traditional orthodox churches of the West...risking the worship of moralism, etc. because the Lordship of Christ is not communicated without repentance - since the unbelievers are taken to be believers already (since christianity is true to begin with). It skipped the process of conversion and freedom from death...the principle on the part about "which sinners of the two would love God more" is washed out.

No, I'm not trying to promote the wild ecstatic conversion the modern day evangelicals and charismatics are pursuing. Nor do I wish to abolish convenantal apologetics. I'm merely stating that in evangelicalism, presuppositional apologetics is irreplaceable by covenantal apologetics since the latter actually requires the former to stand in the beginning.

Convenantal apologetics could even be evidential or rational apologetics in disguise.

Though I can see why they would be inclined to reject the use of the word "pressuposition". It is because of one simple misunderstanding. Pressuposition is not equal to assumption. It is the highest accepted premise. The chinese could translate it better: 先設 非 假設.

Dream: Special Island

This is the second time I dreamt of the same location, if I have not mistaken. The earlier one, which I might not have recorded, was a much darker place, in a night time, much trees. This time, it is day time and things are much clearer. I even get to ask for the price for the cheapest and simplest plastic/fiber only small boat. I saw beaches as blue as turquoise.

I am coming to believe that this island, though the impression is that of an U.S. island...somewhat borders that of another country (possibly Mexico or one of the southern countries - I could remember the fear of border patrol in both dreams), it is somewhat a reminiscent  of another island at home...perhaps Pulau Jerjak - as I have wondered, if the Eastern seaboard of that island is a beautiful coral reef (which was the case in my dream of the dream island).

Criticism on Evangelicals

One chief problem I have seen, while spending time in the southern Bible belt, is that these American evangelicals love to treat everyone they do not know, as non-believers.

This itself, is sinful. Because they do not judge rightly.

Their fellowship is with those who have given them much praise and benefits. Thus, they could only remain in the south, digging the money pockets of their old members. Their fellowship is with those who have given them much praise and benefits. In a way, it is very similar than the modern day traditional churches. I just got a call from one of such organization (Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals) asking for some donation - Why? Because they do not evangelize...they do not think it is their duty to evangelize...they think evangelize is cultural mandate, not going out into the streets to preach to strangers. Though they differ from the south that they are more responsible and have proper respects to strangers who are Christians.

The true value of Achievement in Everyone: 功勞的實值

功勞的實值可在每人上判出。

它不在於明顯度,也不在於佩服人數。

它在於累積的,還是臨時的: accumulative achievements are like piano skills and those that no one can freshly imitate, these are true value; show-off achievements are like introducing a friend to another friend, etc., these are easily imitated by anyone.

Anyone claims to value the show-off achievements and have not accumulative achievements is finding excuse to be stupid. And if he/she claims ownership of the show-off achievements while preventing others for the same achievements, he/she loves to look down on others.

Animal Cruelty

Today, I received an email with a link to animal cruelty.

Yes, animal cruelty is a sin. But the question is, are these videos and claims by the activists rightly protraying their targets?

Often times, I believe these activists' hearts are more brutal and wicked and dirty than the hearts of these so called "cruel butchers".

And no, Proverbs 31:8-9 doesn't apply here.

What Grace is Like - Chocolate box evangelism

They gave away stuff like iPad for free...to show what grace is like.

As interesting as this gesture is, there's a key element missing...the receiver's concept of price could be in jeopardy.

Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is...

I list KJV, NIV/NASB, Chinese and Greek:

KJV:
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

NIV/NASB:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Chinese:
仁爱、喜乐、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信实、 温柔、节制。

against such (things - NIV/NASB) there is no law.

------

Mnemonic:

Perhaps NIV/NASB worded those in a easy to memorize system: 3 by 3, 1-2-3 syllables.

Problem of modern day Christian Psychology

The problem with most modern day Christian Psychology is that the counselors treat others only as patients, they never treat them as equals or as ones better than themselves. This is the pride which made them enemies of God.
