British Confusion

The United Kingdom (UK) consists of four countries: Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.

Ireland (except Northern Ireland) has not been part of UK since 1927.

Scotland, England and Wales forms the island Great Britain.

The Republic (or Sovereign State) of Ireland and Northern Ireland forms the island of Ireland.

Mandatory Military Service

I have a theory, by observations, that those immigrants to U.S. who consider U.S. as a reward or upgrade to their military service, have zero quality from their army training. Should they display any disciplinary virtue, it is due to a passive effect or interest from other area.

Of course, it needs not be said of those who immigrate for the purpose of escaping military duty. Although, I must add, that the main problem with these are more in the area of respect and responsibility than discipline. It is therefore a more serious problem.

Mandatory military service (provided it is within justified ethical code) required in countries such as Taiwan or South Korea serves a neutral function, I believe. Therefore it is not to escape from nor is it necessary for all nations in the world. It is a blessing for those who seek it in discipline and a rebuke to those who run away from it. As for running away, those who run away after completion of military service as a reward are in many ways better than those who immigrated before they begun it.

As for those who are not demanded such disciplinary service, including those who were moved away from it without themselves being aware of such, it is insufficient for me to evaluate.

Last but not least, there are those rare ones who after military service, immigrated, or moved abroad, to seek higher challenge, even temporarily, that should they keep it up and slack not in the end, they have greatness awaiting ahead.

Merlin Legend PBX System

A client inherited an Avaya Merlin Legend PBX phone system. I have to be the tech not only for computer networking but this dinosaur as well.

Took a long long time in research and online forums for me to gradually grasp the whole idea behind this old system.

This is a Magic R4 processor with two 408 MLX cards. 4 new trunk lines added via Verizon. I am to finish the job.

=======

WinSPM v.9 installed (Upgraded from v.2 to v.3 to v.4...-but hey, as long as it works, v2 is not easy to find on the site). Had hard times using the default password "craftr4" to sign on remotely (via modem on external phone). So had to order the 355AF adapter which is a Serial DB9 (RS232) to RJ45 converter. Thanks to gkar I have this pinout table:
Mod Plug to 9 DB = To Avaya 355AF adapter to DB 9
1 blue to 9
2 orange to 1, 6, 8
3 black to 4
4 red to 5
5 green to 2
6 yellow to 3
7 brown not used
8 white not used

This is direct connection from the Serial port DB9 of a PC to RJ45 Admin Port on the PBX processor, which requires no password. Worked like a charm!

With this connection, I used Standard SPM mode to print out the System Setup report (not easy to find, but thanks to TouchToneTom on aucommunity.com.

Apparently, after realizing the Next Page '>' button on the console, especially under Print, I could read and learn a lot about our system and figure out many other things.

Setting the password back to 'craftr4' (It is logical to assume that the password has been changed before) didn't work with the external connection during my first trials. But after learning to read the password from the system, I couldn't believe that it's still 'craftr4', and voila, external connection worked as well now. Why I could log-in externally now and couldn't before is still a mystery for me.

Now I have copied the Operator to another Extension so the rings are 'louder', as requested.

Apparently port 8 is used for some Music On Hold feature, keeping the 8th trunk from working normally. I just need to find a way to remove that MOH on that port.

Thanks to TouchToneTom and aucommunity, I have the lights I need to further explore this remarkable system.

=======

Although I am quite familiar with its basic function and configurations
now, I still prefer Broadview's VoIP Control Panel system. But I
must admit, figuring out the PBX system is like those old fun days
playing with electronics.

Shucking Oysters

I'm getting better at shucking oysters. $6 for a dozen in Flushing Markets. Use any small knife, the only obvious opening is from the back, wiggle strongly and firmly in all direction, becareful of the knife, use knife to blindly slit inside around the front area once the shells are loosen.

No need special tools. Though, I am not sure how well those tools actually work.

Melancholy

How is it that Vanessa seems to be studying advanced calculations (pertaining to bits on electrical wirings involving speed?, etc.)?

How is it I tried to look at her countenance, hairline, and found it hard to recognize any familiarity and yet I was certain it was her?

How is it that this time I'm a mere observer, outsider, comparing to the last illusion?

Perhaps I broke my own rule, last night was it? That I took at peek searching her in Facebook. Perhaps I came across a show "FlashForward" where a foreseen (many worlds theory) affair has begun. Perhaps it was a struggle between that which was taken from me and that which was never so but an illusion?

The feelings I thought I had no more returned to haunt me in that moment. Strong feelings, unexplanable. Could I harness it, turn it into a profitable energy in me: Not suppressed, not subtituted, but carefully harnessed.

Thus, was my dream today.

Psychology: Suppression and Substitution Methods

The suppression and substitution methods in today's psychology, especially Christian psychology in helping people with phobias, obsessions and other emotional and disciplinary problems, may seen to be the most successful methods on the surface.

Nevertheless, this hinders the potential of a person. And the best defense of these impatient cowards would be: Do you have a better idea?

I wonder what Uzzah would say should he be let alive after he helped stabilize the Ark: Do you have a better idea?

Pointing this out, not of Uzzah's mouth, but of the Word of God, the Ark is stabilized nontheless. So I would also say:

Suppression and substitution methods only create a hypocrite, but it is God's will that the world is better this way. And I am given the chance to investigate further as to how God would bestow His mercy and blessings upon the poor victims of these psychos.

Impending climate catastrophe a 'hoax'

Reading this article on Evangetlicals' stance on gobal Warming, I realized I have a month's time in preparing similar subject for the youth group in my church.

I would say, Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth did make an impression on me. However, as far as the truth is concern, one must be diligent in seeking.

This is a rather new subjects for me. I have ordered two DVDs from NiceneCouncil on similar subject.

This entry will be continued...

Swiss Minaret Ban

A 57.5% vote by Swiss citizens, rather close indeed, banned the Swiss Minaret.

Stirring both liberals and extremists, so it seems even in Christian Today.

Jahangir has erred by saying "... a clear discrimination towards the members of the Swiss Muslim community"

It is the inability to define the fine line between discriminating towards the members and discriminating towards their belief, that brings disturbance from both the liberals and the extremists, while the conservatives have to suffer.

It is interesting to note as of now:
"Only four minarets actually exist in Switzerland, in the cities of
Geneva and Frankfurt, while there are an estimated 200 mosques and
prayer rooms
throughout the country. Muslims account for about 4.5 per
cent
of Switzerland’s 7.6 million-large population
. "

TCPMP sync on Bluetooth Headset

Bluetooth S9 headset via PalmOS' Softick Audio Gateway (BTW, error code = 5: "There was an error during background operation" means wrong serial key) with the A2D2 technology is good but will cause video audio out of sync, such as in TCPMP.

Solution: in TCPMP go to Preferences - General - Set A/V sync offset by (-180 in my case) msec.

Tiberius Denarius & the Widow's Mite on Ebay

I've been aiming for Tiberius Silver Denarius and the Widow's Mite on Ebay lately.

The number of bids makes me wonder who and why are they bidding. Are most of them Christians? Coin collectors? Relics admirer like that of the Eastern Orthodox, even Catholics? Or simply for use in Sunday School?

These questions aside, It is good to note that the average going rate for Caesar's penny is from $100 to $200, while the Widow's mite goes from $6 to $40 depending on quality.

I would say Caesar's pennies are more well preserved than the widow's mites making it more sought after. It can even go up to $700 a piece, a price I wonder if anyone would take.

Not being a millionaire, I would rather wait. Patience is a virtue here. Pictures will do them justice for me for now.

Tiberius' Penny (Luke 20:22, etc.)

Caesar 14 AD - 37 AD
Show Me a Penny, whose Image and superscription has it? ... Luke 20:24

Widow's Mite (Mark 12:42, etc.) The widow gave two of these

Mark 12:42
The widow threw in two of these.
