More than just a Journal

I must admit, for almost a year, I have taken this personal online journal as a blog, as if having a populous audience reading my page than my own personal records and self-improvement. it all started when I gradually realized how my journals have been read by others.

This movement I took, has to stay as my personal journal, while online, for the purpose of updating convenience and a reminder to myself to hide nothing. Be wise, but not conspiratorial.

Datuk Chong Wei

I supposed the debate about granting the title of Datuk to a 26 year old has finally resolved. After all, there's another also from Penang and a year younger, Datuk Nicol David, World Champ in Women's Squash.

I sometimes wonder about my past immature view towards fellow Malaysians and again, past naive admiration towards westerners.

CD Repair Kit Works!

For several times I thought the Xinix LS-300 CD repair/cleaning machine was nothing more than a soundless CD player after I tried to repair some of my scratched discs.

Perhaps it's because this DVD disc a friend asked me to copy for him is merely slightly scratched or lightly tainted. After applying a little more of the repair solution to the kit, out of my expectation, the copying process was completed! without the data error message about cyclic redundancy check.

I supposed this tool is useful after all.

Freelance Programmer vs Fulltimers

In the 80-90s, IT computer occupations were in high demands everywhere, with luxurious salary. Then suddenly, universities and colleges were bombarded with IT students. The computer science program became so popular that the competition and high salary began to threatened many both graduating CS students and companies when the new millennia began, and many got laid off.

As for me, I have never intended myself to follow this pathetic trend. It was either through some researching job or my own creative means to make a living. After all, I have always strongly believed that we study for knowledge, not for good paying jobs.

I wonder if this kind of full-time occupation is gradually extinct? Now that many would rather hire part timers, freelancers for their programming, support, maintenance and consulting needs. Take www.getafreelancer.com and www.getacoder.com for instance.

Anglican priest cracks Charles Wesley code

Apparently Charles Wesley has his special diaries. I wonder if I could take a look at it.

Microsoft Access 2003 Not Opening from Shortcut

I was called to office when the new Access database system I designed failed to open on one workstation.

As I searched the web, thanks to obrienpubs, it turns out that for some XP systems (workgroup network sharing, not set to connect to domain, in my case), it will not allow the shared file from another computer to be opened when the access file is in use by another (No warning/error/popup message). And if the file is not being used by others, it will open after a popup: Open File - Security Warning...Unknown Publisher, Do you want to open this file?

In my case, I solved the problem a little differently.

I went to Control Panel-> Security Center-> Internet Options-> Security Tab-> Local Intranet->Sites...button->Advanced...->Typed in the network name of the sharing computer and click Add. Then restart and Voila!

Richard Dutcher Left Mormon Church

Interesting quote by Richard Dutcher, ex-Mormon filmaker:
"Now, no one wants to call themselves a Mormon filmmaker because you're associating yourself with a genre that's fallen into disrepute. It's like having porn on your résumé."

Why Many Church Leaders Fail

I believe it is because they do not seek outside help. And if they do, they prefer to ask those who pamper them nicely all the time, but famous.

Foolishness/Stupidity is a Sin

Mark 7:21-23

Mar 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Mar 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
Mar 7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

On Interracial Relationship

When I walk on the streets of lower Manhattan, I see many interracial couples (usually caucasian men with asian women), sometimes as if they were wondering how people thought of them. I would never despise interracial relationship. Personally, I think there are too many chinese anyway.
