455 vs 4.55

I finally got the payment from one client, accumulated from mid of last month. This particular salon is just very busy. No, I wouldn't put them on the black list.

Although, while Oded is a just and righteous seeker, his partner Avi is less of that sort. So whenever I deal with Avi, he loves to take more time but complain about the charge. Good thing is, they always pay nonetheless. So sometimes it is funny, like today, when Avi asked how much and I said: 455, he replied: 4 dollars...(since delayed payment is not usual with them unless they're really busy and I wouldn't want to bother them, a month's fee is a lot compared to the usual 35-70USD). I somehow didn't find anger anymore, just humorous. Perhaps I've adapted to his behavior. I wondered, other than his individual character, could his family size (Oded only has a new born daugther while he has probably 2 kids) be the cause of his personality.

I also got paid from another client this morning who hadn't called me since last year until today. Not a frequent client so their balance last year was only $80.

There's a greater temptation. That among all these conversations with them, trying to do the best job and get paid, I've been easily distracted that I focus on being the light of the world for myself instead of for God.

Self Evidence of Sinners

I supposed there has been this fad going around on facebook where perpetrators make links with culpable images to attract people to click on it, upon which clicking, will unknowingly add the same link and picture onto their own facebook profile for the world to see.

Whatever the motives these perpetrators are (I would guess: to reveal culpability in others), it doesn't excuse these from their own action, not to mention being a stumbling blocks to others. Hence it is twice evil. Thus, I said: perpetrators.

Virtual Worlds - Open Sims

After coming across Second Life, it took me a while of research to learn of this already more than 10 year old hype of internet technology.

I was researching for developing a virtual tour online for Biblical materials such as the Tabernacle, Solomon's Temple, etc. Apparently these things are lacking, while the secular materials are plenty in this area.

For me, it's not easy search to finally come to know the term: Open Sims. Similar to Second Life, only that it is free. Open server, everything self-achievable.

Although, during the search, I have come across this "Unity3D", another very well graphic oriented web-based 3D virtuality, which is supposed to work with Adobe's SmartFox Server. Giving an all browser user friendly environment.

I would choose to start with Unity3D, but perhaps I should briefly look into this Open Sims so as to not be a frog in a well.

Job's Work, more than known

Job has certainly done more in details.

Job 4:3  Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Job 4:4  Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

From the words of his friends, he has helped the poor, the weak and the needy.

Department of Sanitation

I've one wondered about the sanitation in New York City...Now I have a closer look.

Seems like the landfill of Fresh Kills, Staten Island is carrying the burden of all 5 boroughs. Some of Staten Island's residents may object, but so far, it seems the only remote enough place from living neibhorhood, plus the counter benefit is that the methane produced from underground garbage is quite useful.

Dell USB Keyboard not recognized at BIOS time, thus cannot F2 into BIOS SETUP

Seems that no sound solution found. My solution is unplug power cable and repeat the test a few times using another USB port and it eventually works. Although, it will often go back to the same problem.

Tracks Server Down time

Often times I came across the thought of doing this but have never gotten to a point of necessity until today. When the all mysterious crashes of one router at work forced my hand. This is after I have solved the issue with the WEP crashes, which was frequent while the aftermath of that is acceptably less annoying.

Thanks to suggestion from a forum, I now use Host-Tracker. A free service providing periodic status monitoring with email notification on server down (or up). So far so good. I don't know how effective the email notification upon the checks since I have just set up and I don't feel like purposely shutdown the school's servers just for test. I will wait patiently.

Solution to Piracy: Drop Prices

Came across this article, saying academic studies show those piracy countries would have to pay more compared to U.S. if based on living standard. So, cut price.

I think one doesn't need academic research to figure that out.

What sins has Joseph? Genesis 37

I once heard a lecture by Dr. Tong, that in the Bible, Joseph and Daniel were the only two, which the Bible has not quite revealed their sins, if not completely stays silent on the subject.

I have kept those words in my study of the Bible, so that I may study with a pious heart.

Since then, I have come across interpretations from a few about Joseph's sins in the Bible.

They usually concluded that Joseph has sinned when he 'boasted' his dreams to his family. Fewer would complain about his initial treatment of his brethren in Egypt.

I have always carefully struggled with all these interpretations. And I have often concluded those who interpreted that way are timid, cunning and without true love. For it only shows, Joseph's trust and love to his own family, despite obvious enmity within. As Jesus, John the Baptist, Stephen and many prophets have practised similarly.

Recently, I came across the same issue when a comment on a stephen tong sermon blog upheld the same error in Tim Keller's old sermon series: The Gospel According to Joseph. I did not have time nor the money to go over what Tim Keller had actually said, but merely measured it from this 'supporter' of his. Not 100% thorough, but I'm sure my preliminary investigation on the comment is sound.

I then found out John Calvin puts the issue to rest, of all his other statements in the same chapter, in one single line. Much better than I could ever put it:

Let us then learn not to be grieved if, at any time, the shining of the grace of God upon us should cause us to be envied.

-John Calvin Commentary on Genesis 37:8

Ways to Change Power Scheme and others on Guest Account (XP)

Doing a Sunday School Projector project at CCCNY, I stumbled upon this problem.

Solution:

Use the command powercfg.exe.

Two other solutions found on the web:

1. Gemarti:

I never actually tried this, but it should work:
Elevate the guest account to administrator. Log on as guest. Make the power option changes and then demote the guest account back to its original state. Just make sure you note what user group Guest was originally in. I have the guest account disabled on my machines, so I don't remember what group it is originally in.

You should be able to promote and demote the guest account  logged on as administrator user the lusrmgr.msc snap-in:

START | RUN | LUSRMGR.MSC

2. Dabzov:

Thank you.

I used a different
path, but you led me to the solution. Note -  Priviledges for user in
more than one group defaults to group with lowest priviledges.

While logged on a s Administrator:

  |start|settings|control panel|administrative tools|computer management|Local users and groups|groups

1. click on "guest" and remove userGuest form  groupGuests (apply/OK)

2. Click on "Administrators" and add userGuest to groupAdministrators (apply / OK)

3. Log off Administrator (to save settings)

4. Log onto Guest

5. |Start|Settings|control panel|power options|

6. Change Power Settings|apply|OK|

7. Log off Guest

8. Log onto administrator

9.|start|settings|control panel|administrative tools|computer management|Local users and groups|groups

10. remove userGuest from groupAdministrators

11. Add userGuest to groupGuests

12. log off Administrator

Sorry for the detail, but I will be directing others to this chain of entries.

thnaks again
dave
