I Know Not

1Corinthians 8:2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

1Corinthians 8:2  若有人以为自己知道什麽,按他所当知道的,他仍是不知道。

I have come a long to come to the conviction that I know nothing.

When I learn something, I must recognize that I had not known.

Anti-Christ Emails

I have recently come across a couple of forward emails providing what is claimed to be "useful" information, but was actually misleading or having false testimonies despite the intention of the message, while attributing the source, pertaining to Christianity.

I have first thought them to come from some genuine crackpot Christian trying to be "Mr. Good" like Peter once did.

Then it occurs to me that these hoax could very well come from non-Christians in disguise trying to discredit Christianity.

To think Truth is overrated? I doubt it. God has given us clear and simple, the Bible, for us to humbly listen and take heed. We don't need to help God. We need God to help us.

1 Timothy 2:12 But I permit not a woman to teach...

Whoever tries to interpret this verse as historically obsolete principle, is merely trying to be a smart alec. As if he knew what it means to be equal between men and women.

By no means were the women in the Roman Empire so less educated that they were not to teach. What happened to Truth? Learning God's way? does it not also apply to women?

If a woman knows the truth and speak not, she would be playing the role of Satan, hindering others from the truth.

Now this verse applies with reason given in subsequent verses (1Ti 2:13-14). When concerning matters of authority. The head of the woman is the man. Wives are to submit to their husbands. (1 Corinthians 11:3)

Now I have heard many Christian wives would like to say "Sure, the husband is the head of the wife, but the wife is the husband's neck" This way the head is useless if the neck is not "in control". Dr. Stephen Tong brought an excellent contrast from the Bible: "A worthy woman is the crown of her husband" Proverbs 12:4. Therefore, only a fool would want to be a neck and not the crown.

Nonetheless, there are times when God raised the women to take over authority. Ergo, a contradiction? Not at all. Rather, it is only when the men despised the authority given them in the name of cowardice and indolence.

The church should be the light of the world. When the church couldn't even stand up when women are abused by their husbands, it would open the door for the "learned" pagans to promote feminism. Turning the divine order around, causing everyone to sink in the drunkenness of the fallen perception of fairness.

What about equality?  Just as Christ is God, Christ is equal to God.

American Psychologists

I think the Americans trying to spread their psychological philosophy, psychiatric treatments to other countries is a joke. There are many more professionals in other countries that are better at these sort of things. Just because it's not in the American Newpapers they thought no one else is better.

It fits very well into the first part of Matthew Chapter 7.

In fact, they should try to learn from other countries on these matters. That's why it is so funny.

A Servant of God

A Servant of God must know that he is to be completely holy.

And that his holiness is kept not by himself but by the Holy Spirit who witnesses for Christ.

One who considers himself weak all the time is not fit to be a servant of God, for he has denied the work of the Holy Spirit and the calling of God.

God vs. Mammon

Having the inscription "In God We Trust" on American dollars is not an absolute statement of faith.

It could be hypocritical, even to the point of anti-Christ.

I remembered someone once used it to justify that Santa Claus the North Pole Uncle exists.

One could even argue that this line was inscribed on the monetary notes to remind Americans to "worship" the money more enthusiastically, as it is their "god" whom they trust.

I am bringing this to the surface to show that True Christianity is not hypocrisy. So that we do not see the Americans today as leading example of Christianity, but to rather rely on the Truth. Only by the Bible, only by faith, only by Grace, only Christ and Glory only to God.

Daylight Saving 2007 Update for My Debian Server

Since my linux kernel is not up to date enough for apt-get install tzdata, I had to do it manually, thanks to TechRepublic, it took only a couple minutes to get the job done.

Excerpt from "http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10877-6163042.html"

Manually updating

In cases where the port or package you need to update your time zone configuration is not available, you should be able to change the configuration yourself almost as easily. Before downloading the tzdata file according to the following instructions with the wget command, double-check to make sure you have the right filename by visiting ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/. You should do your work in a temporary directory when performing these actions so you will not accidentally overwrite important files. The following set of commands works on most systems, assuming that the appropriate tzdata file for download is tzdata2007b.tar.gz:
  # wget 'ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/tzdata2007c.tar.gz'
  # tar -xzvf tzdata2007c.tar.gz
  # zic -d zoneinfo northamerica
  # cd zoneinfo
  # cp -r * /usr/share/zoneinfo/

At this point, you should check to ensure the correct data is in place. The following includes two checks. One is for a time zone file, and the other is for a city file, where you should choose the city in the indicated directory that is nearest your location.
  # zdump -v /usr/share/zoneinfo/CST6CDT | grep 2007
  # zdump -v /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Chicago | grep 2007

The output of both these commands should display the newly updated Daylight Saving Time dates. You may have to use the ln -s command, possibly with the -f option as well, as indicated in the following example. This will point your /etc/localtime file at the correct data for your time zone. The output of the zdump command, as presented earlier in this article, will show whether it matches expectations for the new Daylight Saving Time schedule. For example, if your time zone is Central (US), you might use this command string:
  # ln -fs /usr/share/zoneinfo/CST6CDT /etc/localtime

The ln command creates a "link" between a target file and a local filename, so that both point at the same data. The -s option makes it a "symlink" or "softlink", so that one reference is the "real" file and the other is just a "shortcut" to it. Making changes by writing to one affects the other for reading purposes; see the ln manpage for more details. The CST6CDT listed here relates to the Central Standard Time and Central Daylight Time settings for time zones, with a Standard Time offset of -6 hours from Greenwhich Mean Time.

All you really need to know, if that doesn't make sense to you, is which set of letters stands for the name of your time zone. The following simple table may help, though it is not comprehensive:
Time Zone     Abbreviation
Eastern     EST5EDT
Central     CST6CDT
Mountain     MST7MDT
Pacific     PST8PDT

This should cover the most common North American time zones.

Once this is done, you can delete the contents of your temporary directory where you initially downloaded the tzdata file, and you shouldn't have any further problems with automatic Daylight Saving Time adjustments on your system.

At least, until the next time Congress passes a law that sends your IT department into a panic.

Some Drunkards Seem to Know a Lot

I met a drunk who called himself "Yacob" at StarBucks tonight. We talked about Musics, Arts. He was rather repugnant at first, most would ignore him. He walked into Starbucks, stared at innocent Timothy who's just minding his own business on his laptop, and then squawking gibberish at poor Tim like an angry oranghutan that had just escaped from the zoo.

Even though I did not understand what was he yacking about, I could tell from his accent, that he's Russian.  After drawing everyone's attention to me, he went his way and sat at a corner.  I continued my Biblical devotion while trying to reason out the recent confusion.

After a while when everyone in my area had left, Starbucks' closing in a few minutes, he walked to me again with his angry face, stood still right next to my left and "arrararrar!" again. Nonetheless, he seemed tamer this time. Now I have studied crazy people for quite sometime to know he is harmless. Although, I had been wrong before. There was a guy who had been sitting right next to my table for hours. This guy was there even longer that I, as if we're competing who's gonna stay the longest, he was gone like the wind when Mr. "Yacob" showed up yelling at me like I forgot to lock up the zoo or something.

Now I've learned a little Russian since college to start a friendly conversation with a Russian in English. So I was able to calm him down, have him sat down and we chatted. So it turned out that he couldn't stand people sitting in cafe working on laptops like some "sophisticated civilized egocentric"...He told me that he knew a lot, arts, musics, etc. and started to show off. I don't know too much, but enough to respond counteractively.

While he was rambling about, I had the burden of the Gospel within me, however, since StarBucks is closing and there's an unexpected heavy blizzard out there, I was afraid I was not able to preach to him. Or perhaps I was just too ignorant and lazy? Now I have had my share of starting right into Gospel conversation with very very proud and aged seniors, it had not usually turn out well, especially when they hated Christianity. So my strategy was to calm them down first, become buddy buddy, and then introduce them to preacher Tim.

I was trying to focus on Handel's oratorios, since he also knew them, leading him to the direction of the Gospel. Unfortunately, he was too proud to stay on one topic.

Oh well, what's done is done. I learned a few things.

Now I need to look up the historical accounts of monophonic and polyphonic musics.
