The Yankee Stadium

Suddenly, I was emailed by Charles, out of the blue. I was delighted, because we could finally meet again.

They had an extra ticket for me for Yankee Stadium, which was where we went yesterday.

It wasn't about the baseball game (Yankee won by 7-0 against Tampa Bay), but meeting this couple.

I was not allowed in because of my laptop. Charles said that the other only time we went to the stadium a few years back, I had done the same mistake. I think Charles was right. Poor Charles had to bring my laptop to his car, his daugther cried missing his presence. I can't believe I am so absent minded.

American events with security - No laptops, Noted.

This was my first time in the new stadium. Not much difference from the old demolished one next door, except that it looks new.

We had better font seatings this time.

We talked, about the futur of myself and Nadia.

Greetings exchanged, we left for home separately at 10:20pm. I calculated my rides, took Bx6 bus across Bronx from West to East to Hunts Point #6 train. Then on the 6 train, up to Parkchester, and then Q44 bus. In all transfers, waiting time was no more than 20 seconds. So I got home within the hour. I was thankful.

On Problem of Evil

God is responsible for sin/evil, just as the Sun is responsible for shadows - Steve Jeffery

Why God allows...

Numerous times the question: Why God allows suffering..., brings me anger.

If one can see a problem, they one should do something about it, not blame it on God.

If one does nothing, one should apologize to God.

If one fails, one should beg God for mercy and guidance.

As for why is there suffering? That is another topic.

Old Testament Law and The Charge of Inconsistency - Homosexuality Battle

Tim Keller in this current Redeemer Report finally voiced his take on Homosexuality, in a more public manner.

His take is impressive as always. Perhaps Keller is better a writer.

When dealing with challenges against Christians on "they pick and choose which of the rules in the Bible to obey", Keller easily defended the case that the accusation is invalid as the rules that weren't followed in the OT were replaced by the person of Christ, such as sacrifices, rituals, etc. And that what still remain in the NT are obviously ignored by the accusers.

Keller mentioned that Jesus' mentioning of marital union of one man and one woman is clear enough to judge any other types of union as sexual imorality.

Keller continued...The case of Nation-State in the old Israel time makes sins severe penalties. The New Testament dealing of sins is exemplified by Christ, through exhortations and exclusion from membership.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

Sometimes, the simplest answer to give is, as Alex did, when facing childish personal attack in the church against reformed doctrines, is just to say, "I stand on the shoulders of Giants: Calvin, Luther, etc.".

But then one must be careful, not to use this as an excuse for lazy defense. For one must care enough to deal with the corrupt minds, those that make wrong right and right wrong before God, the proud ones, the wicked, the selfish ones and so on. The problem is not solved by merely stating "I stand behind these heroes, so you deal with them, not me".

Notes on Spy Pen Camera

Some confusion between different models. My old type, fully hard case body. The New one, thicker, lower rubbery body.

After comparing documentations, here's what's important:

1. (I think) When bought new, do initial full discharge and recharge for 5 times. This is for full potential of battery life.

2. For date format:

2012.06.06 22.00.00

Y or N at the end of the line (with or without space before) is supposed to be for showing or hiding timestamp on video But it doesn't seem to work.

save the single timeline in txt file format and name the file: time.txt, to the root directory.

Keep pen charged or else time will reset to 1980 and this procedure must be repeated for correct timestamp.

A Servant's Attitude

Recent conversation with my mother reminds me of the time when my pastor asked me, after countless refusal of of taking any leadership/teaching roles in the church, "What do you want to do in the church". To which I replied very promptly, "Cleaning" (My church like many Chinese churches here, have lunch time where the church cook/order take out/etc., after the service).

Although, contrary to the matter, I heard in church yesterday, when some guy is offered a position of vice president for the coming retreat (one which I not associating myself with), he replied "I will do all those tasks required, but just don't give me the title of vice president". I know this guy, I know the type. And there are plenty of this type amongst the Chinese men of the Chinese churches in America. Most likely, the refusal of the "Title" means the refusal of responsibility "should something go wrong".

So it simply saying: I will obey, I will follow orders, I will help, I will support, I'll be as "Good son", but if anything goes wrong, don't blame me, I have calculated very carefully not to be responsible for things that will go wrong on my account. If someone from outside comes to me with questions about this or that, All I need to know is to whom I can direct that person to for answers, don't ask me to study the questions myself, unless it is in the description of responsibilities that I have carefully and selectively agreed to.

So in the end, the whole church is in agony every year trying to find someone to take a leading responsibility (with titles), especially among guys. This is one general problem of American Christianity. Somehow I feel Malaysia has yet to suffer it. Yet. Though I have a feeling that it is coming to Malaysia, if they keep absorbing Western culture without discernment. Everyone would just want to do the job, but not the titles, so there will be no pastors, no teachers, no presidents, but just people acting like those roles, which will lead to chaos.

As for me, no, I do not relate myself to that type. Because I would just say, if you don't want the title, why do it at all? As Rev. Dr. Tong once said of those part time pastors who have great churches but running successful business at the same time, that if the church can provide for the pastor's living? why one needs to feel embarrassed of taking money from the church and make a living from other businesses? Which shows that the person actually despises pastors, seeing pastors as beggars, regardless of what adoration they display before other pastors.

If we are given a title, we accept it with humble dignity and do our job, or we don't do it at all and return the title; Nor should we maintain ourselves to be mere backup supporters, it is not an attitude of a faithful slave of true and perfect Lord.

DVD Review: The Emperor's Club (2002)

I have just watched the Emperor's Club, after I have been made aware of it in one of Sproul's sermon.

This is one of those rare quality film, like Shawshank Redemption that doesn't have much of those hollywood attractions like sex, horror, violence, etc. (Though it has a very short scene where playboy magazines are shown, and 3 boys of St. Benedict went to the neighboring St. Mary's by the lake to flirt with 3 girls).

It is about a private school teacher who faces the good and the bad students. Unlike the pop versions of films on teacher's impact such as Dangerous Minds (1995), Sister Act 2 (1993), Mr. Holland's Opus (1995), The School of Rock (2003),  Homeless to Harvard (2003), Good Will Hunting (1997), Matilda (1996), etc.

It is said the Dead Poets Society (1989) has the closest uniform to the Emperor's Club,  but even though I haven't seen that, by just watching the trailer on youtube, I doubt it is any of a match.

This film teaches virtue of truth, while in today's world, many people teach their children to merely know what is moral, but obtain success in life in any way as long as they do not get caught.

True, the "bad" guy of this film seems to have gotten away with his "way",  but then again, this film is for "those who have ears, let them hear".

On a side note of today's Christianity, I fear that Mr. Bell's type has a firm ground in many churches. In fact, even promotion of this type. Perfect virtual, morality, principles, cannot be perfectly fit into practical use, they would argue. But when blame must surface, the "fall of humanity", "human imperfection" is the scapegoat. Why? Isn't this ultimately a blame on God? Or as if one could pretend that God though has every right but does not judge?
