Recommended Readings by WTS

http://wts.edu/becoming/whywestminster/recommendedreading.html

Below
you’ll find a list of books that our faculty, administration and alumni
recommend to those who are interested in Westminster and those who are
entering as Westminster students. It is by no means exhaustive and is by
no means required before enrollment, but you may find these books to be
a good “warm up” for your Westminster education.

A number of
these books are required for classes, and generally we’ve listed the
books that are easier to read at the top in each category. The titles
are arranged according to the categories of Westminster classes, so it
is also a fair representation of the kind of literature you will be
reading for your respective classes. You will also be expected to write a
great deal for your classes, so at the end of the list we have included
books on research and writing most often recommend by professors.

When possible, the books are linked to where you can purchase them through the Westminster Bookstore. Blessings on your preparation for Westminster and enjoy your reading!

Death of A friend's spouse

I've recently come across a news of an old primary school friend's wife's death, possibly cancer. Leaving him with a son, if I have not mistaken.

We've gotten apart due to isolation. This is the first news of widowed friend I knew. Photos from facebook left deep impression in me. And I'm yet married.

Unleashing God's Truth?

John MacArthur's GTY, Grace to You, Truth Matters Conference, have this slogan: Unleashing God's truth one verse at a time.

God's truth does not need to be unleashed, but revealed. For it was never trapped nor restrained.

Solecism.

They are having the conference during this weekend Labor Day holidays. Oh how I envy those in California. Despite the free online streaming of the 4 day event, I'm afraid I don't have much time for it as I have to deal with this retreat. Remind myself not to associate myself with selfish people though I may serve with them in all sincerity for the Lord.

Laughter: The two kinds

There are two kinds of laughter that are hard to differentiate:

1. A mockery of others.

2. A mockery of self limitation.

Geovision Auto Login problem

Geovision GV-800, surveillance camera system, autologin problem after password change: "Please Contact with Supervisor! Not a Valid Password Account for Auto Login!"

Solution by Charles:

You have the auto login on startup option enabled, which is causing this problem.

The Auto Login feature can be found in the system configuration
option (first tab). Its down near the bottom on the left hand side.
This feature feeds off of the username and password you have setup - if
you edit the username or password, then you also need to update this
option.

Hurricane Irene Formation

By NASA

So, no big deal here in Queens, might have happened in the night AM. Saw some trees fallen. It was said the storm has calmed a little since it's landfall on Coney Island.

Everyone hogging AC power like crazy

It's only 74-75F and almost everyone in my 6 story building has turned on air conditioning like crazy. I admit I am somehow sweeting a little, feels like 80F (I think this is attributed to all these buzzing AC exhaust), but I'm not going to turn on mine...well, in the other bedroom.

Can't stand a little heat? If there's any way I could believe in evolution, this is one. Or is it...devolution?

Decision in Matter of Life and Death

It would appear I have a small decision to make, for the candidates of this coming Saturday's TOEFL iBT test. Hurricane Irene is expected to hit New York Saturday night to Sunday noon.

On the one hand I think it's not too late to have the exam, on the other hand, who knows...

I shall check the reports tomorrow and make a decision by the morning.

Update 8/27/2011 1:18AM

Lots of bridges and tunnels expect to shutdown. 300,000 ordered to evacuate, mainly the Staten Island, Manhattan coast and a big part of south brooklyn.

I called Montauk's motel, rooms are avaible but rates remain as expensive. So I'm not going...not that I could go even if I want to, since all MTA & LIRR services will be shutdown by noon Saturday. Everyone will stay at home for two days. NYC, biggest city in the world will be shutdown.

Found a good web for tracking the hurricane.

Pastor said church will open but I may not go.
