The hand that rocks the cradle

There was this saying in an old movie, I've never thought it was from a classic poem. By William Ross Wallace (1819-1881).

Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Infancy's the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow--
Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!
All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky--
Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Reinventing Collapse by Dmitry Orlov

An interesting book predicting United States' future.

It is written in 2008. Using the example of Soviet's collapse, comparing socialism with America's capitalism.

I must admit, there are many pages of it I've fallen in love with.

I must also admit, I'm often reminded on sermons I've heard that upheld democracy over communism. True, democracy is due to the respect of human rights, however, just as communist countries fail due to theological problem, so is democracy. For it is a slower symptom of greed.

While celebrated the fall of Berlin wall, the Americans now build high walls around the globe for protection. Particularly, the Mexican borders back home.

This would go under a different category,  but since it is from this book, I shall quote it here, a favorite:

We attempt to define depression as a psychological ailment, but it is a symptom of unconscious rebellion. Although the rebellious can and are medicated into submission, this does not address the underlying problem.

If someone like Orlov could see this, how is it that Christian psychologists are so crazy about sending depressed people to clinics for pills? From a point of view, I would call it pride. Pride of having witness to a temporary fix, so they could not only claim the fame while it lasts, but also doubling their pride with their 'humility'. I would uncover these before they could go into hiding. Should their humbleness be true, they would repent.

I may buy this book. (Currently on library loan)

Confetti

I knew this word but it took me a while to recall it today.

Shredded papers thrown or shot into the air. Used in parties, celebration occasions.

Preaching Spirit

If, when I preach and all the responses I get is yes and amen, I have to seriously ask myself, where did I go wrong.

Shaking Ground

Either it was an Earth quake which would be my first or someone in my resident building was causing a around half centimeter magnitude ground shake of 1.5 frequency for about 5 seconds, at 1:57pm today.

I did check the earth quake watch site very quickly and found a close one in Virginia, 5.8 magnitude. I still had doubt, because my upstairs neighbor behaves like buffalos sometimes.

After another news update, convinced me it was a natural event.

And after a suspected server traffic overload time at NY1, it is finally confirmed.

Christian Evolutionists

This is really nothing new. However, instead of accusing them lack of desire for that which is of God more than the autonomous conclusion of human mind, I would quote Gandhi here: they are putting on a cloak of nonviolence to cover their impotence. This cloak, being the cover of such desire of God.

Modern Christian Psychology

Because it is secretly using the atheist psychobable of human emotions and feelings, modern Christian psychology today is 效果最明顯,成功率最失敗。 For it is momentary. Talk about the sower whose seeds fell on rocky grounds.
