Aquarium Update (6/22/2021): The group of stocks that died...I think

I think the Fluval light helped a bit. PAR is around 50-150 depending on depth. Before the Fluval, the Aqueon light was doing virtually zero, 30 tops and that is out of water very close to the light. The frags and anemones certainly didn't glow in Aqueon light the way they do now in Fluval light.

Fluval Marine & Reef 2.0 LED tested for PAR at direct closest range:
Pink: 200
Cyan: 100
Blue: 350
Purple: 150
Cold White: 950

From Petco:
The chocolate chip starfish died, around 3-5 days ago. It was perusing around the tank, as if look for where the water flow is and dwells there. But when I installed the return pipe outlet (duckbill nozzle) so that I could redirect the water a bit away from the corner of the tank (not sure if it's doing anything bad the the seal of the tank), the starfish left the spot where the flow's the strongest on the top side and perused elsewhere, mostly near the water surface, and then one day, it was laying flat upside down on the substrates with some tiny tentacles out, so I thought it was still alive and turned it around and confirmed that it should be alive when the legs retracted after touching it. But then it didn't move and it's top skin started to turn light color at some spots and I checked. I'm leaving it in the tank for now since it's small, until I've done my research about this. Maybe this will help promote bacteria that I need to cure the tank (I think it's bad idea, but I am totally clueless at this point).

The Kenya Tree (from a further Petco) has completely melted away after I placed it on the purple rock. Not sure if it was the light, the flow or the NH, NO levels.

From CoralsAnonymous:
The CA Ruby Red Pulsing Xenia didn't do anything much since day one, and now it's just probably gone, don't see much. I can't tell if I got cheated on this, although there were very small xenia but not pulsing for sure. Now's like all gone.

The Purple-Tip Hydra Bubble Tip Anemone appears to have melted...there's still some remnant but I don't think they are alive. Some tips do glow in blue light but seems to be in the melting process. This was not looking good even on the first day, appeared to be folding in two, and I tried to sit it on the white rock but it moved a bit and then had the strength to attach itself to the side of the white rock, but was already deteriorating. Not sure if I got cheated out of this one. Unless I misidentified this one, it was either too small to tell or that I just couldn't tell if it's like the one in the photos as if it was too dying to be recognized. I just checked their website and they are out of stock, so I am not sure if I got the last bad one.

The Green Long Tentacle Anemone's doing well so far and the Clarkiis are loving it. Took a while to find a few spots but I think it's settled now at the base of the purple rock, I did manually place it there.

Purple Corkscrew Long Tentacle Anemone seems to be doing well as well, I think it's not as purple as it's shown in the photos. More like brownish, unless I misidentified it with the Green Long Tentacle. It's functioning just like the Green Long Tentacle Anemone and settled itself under the white rock before the Green Long Tentacle.

The Ultra Mini Carpet Anemone has magnificent colors but it had me worry, I still do. It kept moving around on the white rocks, I then placed it on the purple rock and then it moved again couple nights later. Looks like it's settled at the back of the white rock for now. Sometimes I couldn't tell if it was melting.

The Green Pipe Organ doesn't seem to do well. Only a few pulps (like 2-3 pulps) opened up and very small, I don't really see much appendixes. With the blue light, the few, 2-3 tips do glow green, but just tips. I would need to learn more about these.

The free frags, about 4 polyps appear to be doing well, but not showing too healthy. My other frags from FirstChoice is bigger with more pulps and looks better.

From Aquaridise:
The Leather Finger doesn't look so good. The dark polyps are still coming out but may not be as extended as before and the coral is softer than before, can't really stand up.

Everything else appear to be doing well. I think one emerald crab molted as I saw its empty shell near the feather duster about a week ago and nothing's in the shell. I left the shell in the tank for the cycles to take over.

And this is the tank's condition as of now:
After calibrating the BHP03 Portable digital pH meter (hopefully I don't have to calibrate anytime soon as I would need to buy those powders again for calibration), the tank water is measured at 8.02.

Using the Seachem Laboratories Ammonia Alert 1 Year Monitor for the first time, I think it dropped from around 0.05 ppm to now 0.3 ppm-ish. Between alert and safe. I am going to verify this with the other tests just to make sure. But right now, I'm not going to worry much about Ammonia. I still have Seneye monitor to test this that I haven't done yet.

First time using Hanna Calcium Checker: 376 ppm (google says normal range should be: 380-450ppm) so I'll add some calcium again.

The pH meter calibration and rinsing and the Hanna Calcium checker were done using Walmart bought (82 cent per gallon) distilled water. My TDS meter tested the water at 1-2 ppm which I guess is good. So no need to use RO or deionized water.

I'll probably test Alkalinity and Phosphate tomorrow with the Hanna Checkers for the first time.

Aquarium Update: Got some live corals shipped from Hawaii, I think.

The last time I did something like this, was around the time in St. James, during my first marine tank (20 Gal) where I ordered some pigmy seahorses from I think Hawaii.

From Corals Anonymous, they also have a branch in CA. They called me to change an order (Green Snow Globe Bubble Tip Anemone replaced with Green Long Tentacle Anemone). Because the Snow Globe wasn't doing well. When I also added the Ultra Mini Carpet Anemone, they also threw in some frags (zoa) for free, all this without changing the price, because it's a large order, but I guess I got a good deal, not to mention good service as well. I think the guy who called me was Asian...I wonder if lots of Asians are into reef tanks.

Here's what I have as of now:

From before:
2 x Clarkiis
2 x Lightning Blue Damsels
2 x 3 Spot Domino Damselfish
around 40 lbs of live rocks
(first one from Petco, the rest pink & white from Ebay)
2 x yellow clown gobies
1 x chocolate chip starfish
2 x feather dusters
some emerald crabs
(I don't exactly know how many because they came with the Petco live rock, but they were at least 3-4, I would say more than that)
1 x Leather Finger
1 x Kenya Tree
(dying)
1 x zoa
(From FirstChoice)

Now:
1 x Ultra Mini Carpet Anemone
1 x Green Long Tentacle Anemone
1 x Purple-tip Hydra Bubble Tip Anemone
1 x Green Pipe Organ
1 x Purple Corkscrew Long Tentacle Anemone
1 x CA Ruby Red Pulsing Xenia

I also received some test kits from Hanna and the Seneye Reef Monitor which is good for checking PAR and I found out that my PAR is very low...close to zero with the light that I have, so yesterday (6/18) from Aquaridise:
1 x Fluval Marine & Reef 2.0 LED Strip Light, 59 Watts (48") $209, Amazon sold it for $190 but I couldn't wait for 3 days until Monday, wasn't even sure how well it's PAR would be. And they gave me about $5 discount, so it's good. Hopefully this will save the Kenya Tree, but I am not counting on it too much.
1 x Dr. Tim's One and Only Saltwater Live Nitrifying Bacteria for 60 gal tank, pour all of it.
1 x Fritz-Zyme 9 Saltwater 16 oz. (For dealing specifically with Ammonia and Nitrite, which I am high on now)

The Fluval light looks great. Blue light even made the corals glow. But it was only the night, more time is needed. And I dumped Dr. Tim's bacteria in, with filter running (hopefully this has nothing to do with the warning not to leave filter socks in on the label). Haven't tried Fritz-Zyme 9 yet, we'll see.

Sermon - Stephen Tong Sunday Service 06/13/2021 Rev. 3:17-19

Chinese Version: Rev. 3:14-22

Anything a person say in his heart to himself, will determine the direction of his future.

Martin Buber's I and Thou. But true relativity of of these relationships is in the Bible first. And the deeper relationship is a person can talk to himself, with himself. Evolutionists are shallow here, as they only could see the similarities among species, not their differences.

When would a person talk to himself: Most sorrow, happy, lonely, in danger.

My conclusion: Rather than I and Thou, this is about "I and I" - "I and myself"

v.17 "you said" - who say? the church of Laodicea said to herself.

We must watch what we said to ourselves.

Tong shared that he once noticed a rich person pretty proud of his wealth until he saw the church's museum. Lots of wealthy only have more money, land property, but know nothing else (i.e. arts, literature, history, etc.)

We evaluate ourselves, God also evaluates us. Thus there are two kinds of estimations. In v. 17, first half is men's evaluation, God's the second part. Tong relates to the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen's "The Emperor's New Clothes".

Another analogy of a patient cannot hide from the doctor that x-rayed him, that he was rich. The doctor had found tens of thousands of dollars when he was x-raying him.

Tong shared a Hong Kong big Chinese church once invited him, saying that a great church should invite a great preacher. Tong said he's not great, and the debate went on. Then Tong challenged the audience and proved that their audience ain't that great because they couldn't answer his questions. Thus, everyone humbled and listened. My question would be if it is a "rally" as claimed by Tong, why challenging the audience with questions as if they were Christians - wouldn't rally be mostly non-Christians. I guess I missed something somewhere.

v. 18's summary same as the 3 points in the Indonesian version.

Why buy instead of getting them for free? Because must 付代价!

After the sermon, Tong announced Ivan Kristiono to be his successor.

Indonesian Version:

Scripture reading: Luke 14:16-24

v. 17: You said to yourself - self worship. Relation of self & self, not horizontal (fellowship of believers) and not vertical (with God). i.e. When a guy rejected by a woman, he hates himself to a point that he hates all women. I add: thus he hates God's creation and thus hates God.

Jean Paul Sartre - Being in itself, Being to itself [Being for itself]. Talks about how man view relationships around him and also himself. And the fault in such views.

Those who cannot see his own faults, cannot improve.

v. 18: Why buy the gold? It's the faith refined by fire.

  1. A Church doesn't have khotbah yang handung iman yang sehati/murni (emas yang diuji), better ditutup.
  2. Clothed in white: kelakuan yang moral yang suci.
  3. Vision of mission. Visi yang jelas.

The thought of Rev. Laura Lin's church keeps come to mind when Tong preached on this passage on Laodicea. Mainly, the absence of vision, lukewarm, "I am rich, I need nothing", etc.

The Omnipotence Paradox - Can God create a rock/bolder so Heavy He cannot lift

Not to debunk my dear Dr. Sean McDowell's argument

(actually, the Omnipotence Paradox answer predates him) but yes, we can create a square circle 😜.

I've used this square circle answer before, Stephen Tong did as well. But I found it inadequate.

The best version I came up is this:
Can you draw...so heavy/bright/etc. that you cannot...

Ben Shapiro on Jewish History

From the podcast: Here's the Truth About the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Modern Day Israel = half the size of New Jersey

1300 BCE, Joshua enters the land

1000 BCE, Kingdom of David, capital = Jerusalem, Ruins found: Ir David

957 BCE, 1st temple of Solomon, 2 kingdoms fighting. Philistines (seafaring) are not Palestinians (Arabs)

722 BCE, 1st Exile by Assyrians

586 BCE, Babylonian Exile, 1st temple destroyed. Ben emphasized that this predates Islam's claim of holy site.

515 BCE, Great Return from Babylonia, 2nd temple built (larger than the 1st).

332 BCE, Greeks took over Babylonia

166 BCE, Hanukah, Hasmonean Dynasty, Jews against Greek pagan practices in Israel

63 BCE, Rome took over. General Pompeii took over Israel, Judea is called instead of Israel, vassal state of Roman Empire until the end of Jewish Kingdom.

70 CE, destruction of Jerusalem. Jewish revolt against religious, political reasons. Siege of Masada. 2nd Temple destroyed.

130-136 CE, General Simon Bar Kokhba (son of the Star) led Jewish revolt which was defeated by Romans. Shapiro has coin from that time that says "to the freedom of Jerusalem". First time the area called Palestine as an insult to the Jews, due to the great damage the revolt caused.

313 CE, Roman Empire breaking up, now Byzantine rule.

7th Century CE, Founding of Islam.

636 CE, Arab invaded the land, Byzantine land = Christian.

1099-1291 CE, Crusaders fought to take back the land, and defeated in the end.

1291 CE, Muslims called Mamluks took over, for 200 years.

1517 CE, Ottoman Empire (Muslim) took over.

PS: Not a single independent state called Palestine since Judea. Merely territory of empires. Not considered a country, sparsely populated, even Mark Twain said it.

1517-1918 (End of World War I) CE, Ottoman Empire barred Jew settlements, cannot buy land if you are Jewish. Jews made backdoor deals (i.e. Jewish National Fund in late 19th century) with local Arabs to buy lands, because they try to escape from where they are back to their home land. There's always been Jewish presence in Hebron, Jerusalem, etc.

1882 CE, First Aliyah (to go up), Russian Jews escaping Russia.

1897 CE, Zionist movement (Independent Jewish State) began. Proto-Zionist (seen in Jewish prayer book): prayed for 3 times a day for reestablishment of Davidic Dynastic, Jewish Kingdom in Israel, by all serious Jews. Theodor Herzl formed World Zionist Organization, after changing from anti-Zionist to proponent of it when witnessing false accusation of a Jew (French soldier accused of spying for Austria-Hungarian) in the Dreyfus Affair. Trying to establish borders of Israel, in what was known as the Palestinian land since 136 CE.

1917 CE, Britain declares Israel independence.

Thoughts of the Week

2nd trip to the Chinese American Bible Church in Monmouth raised an old question: Should a Catholic convert be rebaptized? Reformed answer is no, or else it's a sin. Of course, the pastor of this church appears to side with the re-baptizer, but it's not quite clear how much he enforces it as we kept getting interrupted by greeters. But it's good for me to look further into this. I already know of the Bible church denomination on the surface. Though they joined the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention). They maybe as loose as the Stony Brook SBC church I was with before, where female pastor wasn't a big deal, though this church I have a feeling that they would not permit female pastors. Of course, lots of this is debunked from the fact that infant baptism is valid. However, there's also a question of why Roman Catholic's baptism is valid and Mormon's baptism is not, according to the trinitarian formula of the Nicene tradition.

My plan is for us to attend both churches, the Grace PCA (for doctrinal reason) and this Chinese church (I've always taken Chinese church very seriously, if they are at least Gospel-centered). I guess we're falling out from the Westfield OPC church since after talking to a few folks that there seems to be a lack of caring or more importantly, a zeal to deal with doctrinal discussion. I would still visit, because I can see they are trying to be Gospel centered, which is a good start.

Sermon - Stephen Tong Sunday Service 06/06/2021 Rev. 3:14-22 & Important lesson on Baptism/mode at the end in the Chinese session

Indonesian Version:

Even churches need to repent.

Keep yourself always in Jesus Christ, not to be spit out. Live healthily, nutritiously, spiritually.

Chinese Version:

v.14 Amen, true honestly.

My note: It's likely that Pilate's wife was the only one converted, rather than Pilate. Thus, we have this testimony of his wife's dream of Jesus. Or at least his wife first.

John 18:38 What is truth? Pilate focused on this rather than the answer to his question "yes I am a king..."

After Socrates, philosophy broke into 4 categories = Minor Socratic Schools (Megara, Elean-Eretrian, Early Cynic, Cyrenaic), more and more confusing as many debate what truth is since Socrates. Not into astronomy, cosmos, but more into the meaning of life. Results in 3 schools: Stoic (kindness), Epicureans (happiness), Skepticism ("agnosticism" called by the Spencer & another of Darwin's friend).

Skepticism, like today's Q&A people, when they ask, they don't really seek the answer, like Pilate asked "what is truth". They wish to prove they are better than the lecturer, etc.

v. 15 "Would that you were either hot or cold!" Look and Laodicea and reflect if we are like so? Harmatia, sin by overdoing or underdoing the target.

Tong criticized those who don't use brain and work zealously, need to repent. Those who are quick to satisfy, very hard to repent.

Rebaptism refute the already established Holy Name of God, this is very dangerous! This is why we only do 1 time baptism.

Then what about Holy Communion? Why not just one time? Jesus said you must do this in remembrance of me. Acts 2 proved it when every Lord's day they did so.

Thoughts of the Week

So it appeared that someone sim swapped my MetroPCS sim card at around 2AM on 5/14/2021, used my number for 2-factor-verification to log into my crypto accounts and wiped out about $15k worth of assets. I believe I've made from about $2k to $10k in a month, mainly dealing with XRP and dogecoins. The thief probably felt very proud of himself/herself. And yes I was angry at first, even now, there's temptation for me to seek them out, study their family, and do something to them, like chop off their fingers, etc. something memorable for them. But then, I thought about how these thieves would need to pay back 4 times worth of what they stole, it's never good for them, no matter how they feel like they are getting away from it. And I don't think if they were caught and did times on Earth would satisfy God's judgment unless they obeyed God's punishment. Even when Zacchaeus was converted, his mentality was so fixed upon paying back 4 times what he cheated from others. This lesson does show that phone companies can't be trusted with this, though it doesn't mean that we shouldn't track down the thieves. The temptation for me is, once tracked down, should I give it to the authorities, or take the matter into my own hands (if you want something done right...).

If I were to share something (i.e. articles, books, videos) long to others, I should be able to summarize the points to them. With my experience introducing Paul Washer to Michael Liu, the timing of sharing the pointers is very important as well. This is why I never look at those shared by others, if they are unable to summarize them. I would just treat them as spams, regardless of where they come from. Am I ignorant? Not if I am using my time wisely and only attend to those "supposed meaningful" spams if I come across them myself somehow. Credit goes to me or whoever that were able to summarize at the right time, while the rest were just mere advertisers, like the commercial videos you see in TV, they have no say in when I benefited from those, in spite of how they try to label those "important".

Learned from a trusted source, Dr. R. C., that Redeemer indeed was overpaying her pastoral staffs. John Lin was paid $175k+ without housing tax, 15 years ago. And he was already known to not want this job. Looking for MBA/Law jobs that he couldn't get, he felt he was trapped in this pastoral role with such high pay. The way I see Lin, he's not one to be into anything Christian. Then what was he doing? I don't know. We always try to run when it was his turn to preach. Tim Keller was the only one anybody cared, until he stepped down. Keller, began his NYC ministry with 6 bedroom 2 unit apartment paid for and a $150k+ salary, with the additional of his 3 boys' private school paid for at $75k/yr. I believe Keller was doing pastoral works before Redeemer, and perhaps attempted it until his wife began smashing china plates. So that was it. They all love to talk about using their pastoral roles to promote themselves either with books and ultimately, to become pastor trainers (higher than pastor) and thus, need no pastoral responsibility themselves. They've "graduated" from it. This sickness is the result of people like Scott Sauls and Revoice. This is not jealousy, because I've already called out their shame before knowing all these figures. But of course, the materialists would come, never forget about them materialists, they would say, if these pastors don't deserve such pay, then why God allowed it? I best just avoid answering them, or else I might be tempted to get a grenade launcher.
