IPOD email checking problem

When email checking status stuck on "Checking for Mail...", just turn it off with the power button (top left for IPOD) by holding it for 3 seconds. Turn on again after a few seconds, solved.

Wifi Failure

Pamela's Laptop.

PamNet wireless network is working (tested with other stations), except this laptop. Connection attempt produced error: Windows cannot connect to PamNet. Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point.

I had always thought it's the laptop (presence of IPV6, etc.) or bad channel. But turns out after the WBR1310 Ver.B1 D-Link router has upgraded its firmware from version 2.00 to 2.02, connection established succesfully.

Is it ethical to setup offshore business

Came across this artical on slashdot: Is Setting Up an Offshore IT Help Desk Ethical?. Didn't go through the comments, but I immediately posted this:

For everything in the universe, there is a balance.
Do countries really exist? If not what does patriotism mean? If yes is it unhypocritical to promote world peace?
When the rich are rich, at what point is that a privilege? and at what point not?
Greed triumphs over ideal, ideal triumphs over selfishness, selfishness triumphs over pragmatism, pragmatism triumphs over greed.
In the end, balance will be kept. Either nobody wins, or everyone loses.
Thus, identify your suffering, stop blaming others.
So go ahead, it's not only ethical to set up offshore business, it will be unethical not to. So some people will learn from hardship, the sweet labor of life.

A wise man once said:" remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise he bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony."

Of course, the quote was from Luke 16:25.

Crimes of the Evangelicals

The worst crime the evangelicals could commit is to call their vacational leisure as missionary trip.

I see missionary trip as equivalent to Paul's. Thus hardship is expected, not parties all the time in their churches. I think that hardly qualifies as persecution.

As if mere message is not enough to spread the Gospel, they have to show them how they enjoy their nonchalant lives.

Parabolic reflected ray Visibility

Thanks to Eric Jacqmain, a 5,800 little mirror arrangement on some parabolic dish was built to refect sun light, converging into a super hot point, burning everything literally in one second.

One can see the actual converged ray during the first burning.

Wikileaks for Nobel

They applauded for Liu Xiaobo's Nobel Prize, against much of the Chinese government's objection.

Now, I supposed what goes around comes around. Will they applaud for Julian Assange? Though, after Obama, anything could happen.

Secret can be for the wise, but many use it for cowardice.

Joel Osteen on Homosexuality

Joel made news in the American christendom this week during CNN interview by famous critic Piers Morgan. Piers' pursuit of truth is definitely to the point in an insistant way.

Though it is interesting how Joel tries to "back off" in his claim that homosexuality is a sin. With all the money he is getting, perhaps it is time to consider seminary enrollment. In Christ's love, I pray for him and give him credit for the stand on this sin, especially as someone who has not gone to seminary...YET, I doubt Billy Graham would do the same.

Here's John MacArthur's take on Joel's status as a pastor:

Nothing But the Truth 2008

I've recently come across a 2008 film "Nothing But the Truth" by Rod Lurie about how a journalist was accused of treason for not revealing the source of her story. The film is an inspiration from a 2005 true case of journalist Judith Miller mainly about her contempt of court on concealing federal leak.

The background regarding national security and patriotism is a stretch of drama attained by judicial lingual.

The ethical problem is not solved. True, journalist Rachel Armstrong has been serving times in jail and even prison and gotten beat up, but the end doesn't have any ethical conclusion to me. If it is about promoting the principle of a journalist's right to retain confidentiality of his or her source and the first amendment, it is not fooling me and I wouldn't categorize that in ethic.

In the movie, the original source (revealed in the end) is the little daughter of the ex-CIA agent Van Doren who was murdered after the story got out. Little Alison was merely making a conversation in the school bus with Armstrong during a field trip. Ergo the "it's illegal for a government official to reveal the identity of an undercover CIA agent" commotion is off the table. However, the drama went on with everyone trying to find out who the source is in order to charge him/her of treason: Who would expect a little girl over hearing her parents talking about it.

My question would be, if the show is about the right of a journalist, how would this venerate Rachel Armstrong? For using information from an innocent girl who didn't know her left hand from her right, for Armstrong's own personal gain? Would her time in jail and 2 year prison and the end of marriage be justified enough for the death of Alison's mother? If this is qualified for the Pulitzer then I don't know what the prize is really about. I'm sure revealing the source in this case may have cause more damage than just the consequence of distrust from future informants. People would be enraged about how Armstrong used the innocence of a little girl for her "right of the First Amendment"...so sure, it is better not to reveal the source, to avoid personal shame.

Integrity and principle about truth here is twisted. A hack at the federal law's loophole? Perhaps. But it does not justify selfish journalism. Might as well con the innocent little girl, would have made a difference. As much as I hate to say it, "score one for homeschool".
